So there is a relatively new Publix on Winter Garden Vineland Rd at the Lakeside Village Center which looks like it should be an easy drive from BLT. However, the drive would take us north via World Drive behind the MK and past the Monorail Maintenance Facility to Reams Rd.

My question is, are these road ways open to the public/WDW guests and can I use them to get into and out of WDW property? With our 9 nt BLT 1 BR trip in Oct, this would be super easy for food/libation stock ups.

Thank you in advance for those who have ventured into the back door roadways to WDW.

Before they opened Western Way, we would take Wintergarden Vineland from the new tollroad where it ended from the FL Turnpike instead of going up to I-4. If you stay on Vista Blvd all the way to Winter Garden Vineland, you should be okay. I don't think Dopey drive is open at all.

I don't think you can go north on World Drive to Reams Road without getting turned back by Disney Security. But head south like you are going to OKW from BLT and instead of turning onto Bonnet Creek Rd you head straight to 535. It's not so convenient that way, but I don't think they will let you go back behind the MK.

I noticed the store hours at that newer store weren't as good as the ones at Regency Village where we usually go.

You will not be allowed to access the area behind the Magic Kingdom. I would not think that Publix would be the closest anyway. I prefer the Winn Dixie just down from the Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista.

I agree, the Winn Dixie is closer and nicer than the Publix.

You can take a right out of BLT and access the areas behind the MK to get to the new Publix. We did it 3 times in June. We were very leery about being behind the MK - it felt like the area should have been off limits to the public. Not only were we not stopped or questioned by security (there are no security check-points back there), but there are big posted signs back there stating that the area is reserved for employees and guests of WDW. It was almost like being on the Keys to the Kingdom tour - you got to see secret areas of the MK! Oh, and the new Publix is like a 5 minute drive from BLT, brand new, and super, super nice!

:cool1: :yay: :cheer2: OK, lets just keep this as our 'best kept secret' so hordes of people do not start using the MK back roads and mess up a good thing. We like Publix so we will try this route in Oct. We'll keep the top down on the EOS to get the full KTTW experiance. :rotfl: If we get turned back, the Winn Dixie at 7840 W. Irlo Bronson Hwy will be the next best option, especially since there are a few off-site eateries and a Walgreens in that area we may check out to save some $$. Winn Dixie will be our shopping point in Sept '13 when we are at AKV.

Thank you all for the quick responses.
