Thinking about doing NYE at Disney next year and would like some input from those that have done it at Bay Lake. First is the Top of the world bar a good place to ring in the new year? Would we be better off trying to get a MK view and just stay in our room? The group will be me, DH, my mom, my brother and his 13 year old daughter. We will also get a room at SSR. So if anyone has any input on if they do anything over there that would be welcome too. Do not see my mom spending the whole day at MK and crowds make me a little tense :furious: so going to the parks is most likely out.

I've never been over a major holiday and thus cannot speak to what the crowd level at TotW will be like (though I suspect it would be popular with other guests who share your line of thinking).

BUT! I have seen the fireworks in the MK from TotW and the view was good. They pipe in the music and you can even see Tink fly if you look very closely.

My only concern would be that on such a busy night that they would close the lounge to non-resort guests like it used to be.

Yes we will be staying at BLT that night. Some other people we are traveling with will be staying at SSR. That is why I asked about that resort. But the only people who will be going up to the top of the world would be staying at the resort. Looking to see if it is a good place to see the fireworks on NYE.

We have been to Disney 4 times over the last four years (are here again to ring in 2012). Two years ago, we had a studio facing the Magic Kingdom (beautiful room on the north side of the lobby just under the Grand Villa). On New Year's Eve, we went over to the Magic Kingdom and had dinner at Liberty Tree. By 8:30, you couldn't get near the Castle and if you were in the front of the park trying to get to the back of the park, they were routing you behind the Plaza Restaurant into the parking lot and into Tomorrow Land. It proved to be too much for us so we headed back to our room around 10:00. We went up to the lounge at 11:00 figuring we would hang until the fireworks. We had a good time. There was a DJ out on the observation deck and servers bringing drinks around. There were also LOTS of people. Shortly before the countdown, we scurried back to our room, opened a bottle of champagne and welcomed in the New Year while watching the fireworks from our balcony. It is an evening I will always remember.

So, depending on what you are looking for, BLT can be a great place to be, but get a room facing the park for maximum effect. Especially if there is a gang of you.

This year we're back at Boardwalk and will do HS. Last year we did Epcot. Next year will probably be BLT again. Good luck with your decision.

We did NYE at the Totwl in 2009 and loved it... 4th of July this year....and will be there tonight in fact for NYE....

The Cast Members up there are awesome...and what a relaxing place to spend the night rolling in the New Year!

Thanks for the feedback. Would love to hear from anyone that went there to ring in 2013.

We stayed at GF in a MK view room for this past NYE and the fireworks display on NYE was out of this world. They shoot them off from easily 6 locations surrounding the seven seas lagoon. I think BLT theme park view would be AWESOME!

We went the evening before NYE this year to watch the NYE fireworks. It was a great view make wife says her jaw dropped. We stayed in BLT. They made sure that everyone in our party stayed at BLT. We were escorted to the elevator and they pushed the buttons on the elevator. It was a frigid evening and I was told it was full up there. So if you plan on on going make sure you get there early. I would have preferred a magic kingdom view but this was an awesome substitute.
