Hey All!

First post here....

I'm so psyched for our surprise trip in the middle of June (which also means I'll be almost done with grad school in 131 days)! Anyhoo, we're kicking off the trip with one night in a dedicated 2BR Theme Park view at BLT. I was thinking that we should watch Wishes from the Top of the World lounge, but now I'm wondering if it would be sweeter to be in our jammies watching the fireworks from our room. My daughters are going to be 5 yo and almost 3 yo. Hmmmm... What do ya'll think? Which would be better? We may never stay at BLT again....Insight?

Thanks!

I think I would wait to see how good the view is from my room before making the decision. I have only stayed lake view, so I've only enjoyed the view from the lounge or viewing area outside, and those viewings have been so good and convenient. If you get a great view from your room, well, that just won't e beat, I'm sure!

I agree to see what the view of the park from your room is- and remember that if you want to try both ways you can do it from your room the first night and travel back to BLT the evening of the 2nd night to watch from the lounge (since your privledges at the resort last until midnight of checkout day. Also even if you choose not to watch the firworks from the lounge go up and look around- if you are around before it gets dark you can really see quite far from the deck and they have diagrams showing what buildings you are seeing in the distance.

I vote you see them from the Room. You didn't pay all those extra points for nothing!

Seriously though, Jammies and fireworks sounds awesome. Just get a beverage from the lounge and bring it back to your room :)

WELCOME. my baby...you'll love the great people at Disboards...and I forgot totally that we can go up the second night...I like that plan if you think the girls can last that long...we can sleep in until noon on the third day!!!!!

I agree that if you have a great MK view then stay there and watch the fireworks. :thumbsup2 But some MK views outshine others so you'll probably want to wait and see where you end up. Disney broadcasts the music for the fireworks over the TV so you won't miss out on that either.

Also, the TOTWL has a tall, solid outer wall at the viewing platform that will mean you have to hold the kids for the whole show or they won't see a thing.

We have done both and they each have good points. Being at the Top of The World is a great view of the property and the other monorail resorts. One thing to consider is the height of the wall and your kids may not be able to see over top of it.
If your room has a good view it was a lot of fun to put our kids in their pj's and turn on the resort tv station for the music.

I had a 4th floor view from the side. I preferred to go to the Top. And my DS came upstairs in his jammies. :thumbsup2

I am not sure if the music is on a tv channel but the music is piped in upstairs.

with a 3 and 5 year old they are probably too short to see the castle and all the fireworks unless they are in someone arms.

holding kids for 15 minutes can be very tiring.

so vote for the room and hope you get a great view.

the wall is around 4' high and 3' deep - oh you aren't surpose to put any kids on that wall.

when they had guards they would tell people to remove the kids. not sure now what would happen.

so for little ones the TOW isn't awhole lot of fun.

now for you and your spouse it would be a great time.

We prefer to watch from our room. It is so relaxing. The music is broadcast on the TV. Our kids were 5 and 7 during our first trip to BLT and they were asleep for fireworks on some nights. It was nice just to watch with DH.

My vote is TOTWL... Not all MK views are the same and the view from the roof can't be beat. As PPs say, the wall is quite tall so the little ones will either need to be in your arms or on your shoulders. And I've seen more than a few kids up top in their pjs, so don't worry about that. We've watched from a 7th floor "lake view" that stared right at Space Mountain and it was good, but it is much cooler upstairs.

when we watched from our room, you had to keep the slider open to hear the music on the TV and when we came back in the room we had probably 50-60 bugs flying around in our room!!!

Thanks Mom! Totally true about sleeping in...

Great advice... I think waiting until we see what kind of view we have is a good idea. We did request a room on a high floor ending in 16 or 22, but you never know what you're going to get in the end!

I can't even believe that people would put kids on a railing like that. I can only assume that the railing is not directly on the side of the building... At least I'm hoping that! Since it's going to be just the two kids and four adults (3 of which don't get to see my kiddos very often), I think we'd be fine playing pass the "baby". ;)

Thanks everyone for the input! I can't wait for my trip.... now I just have to figure out how to surprise my girls :cloud9:.... But that's a whole other post!

We're going to be at BLT over spring break & I really haven't investigated what goes on at the lounge at all. Is there a full service bar up there? Food? Does it get crowded (ie we'd need to go early to get a spot)??

We have reserved a LV studio and per the scoop I got here requested an upper floor in the North tower with an even numbered room. Of course it's all just a request so who knows what we'll actually GET. Our flight lands around 7 & I expect we'll arrive at the property between 8:30 & 9:00 using DME. Do these rooms generally have a view that would include the fireworks if all the requests are met? What time will the fireworks occur then? I guess I need to look at the park calendars huh? I had been trying to figure out dinner that night & figured we'd go to the Contempo Cafe but if we can see the fireworks from our room I suppose room service might be better so we don't miss them. Hummm...Guess we'll need to wait & see what room we get. Now I'm getting excited!!

ETA: just looked at the calendar. Wishes will be at 10:00. Hopefully we can get checked in by 9:00 & be done eating by 10:00 at the Contempo place. But while I was looking at the calendar I discovered that Big Thunder Mountain is going to be closed from Feb - end of May!! :scared1: That's a MAJOR bummer!!! I suppose that will push the lines at other rides to be longer too. Bad timing Disney (over spring break)!! :sad2:

:welcome: to the dis!

Enjoy your DVc stay and congrats on finishing school with two small kids!

TOWL is better. We watched from our room, had to keep the balcony door open (with no screen door), had the tv turned all the way up, and still had trouble hearing the music.

At TOWL, the music is piped in, and you get the full experience. I would experience it at TOWL first, and then if you happen to be in your room on a subsequent night during fireworks, then it's a bonus.

You absolutely should see what the view is from your room first. The view from the patio outside Top of the World cannot be beat, and you'll get a nice view of the very cute Electric Water Pageant and even the high fireworks from Illuminations!
