We thought BB would be a better deal than Netflix... but after trying it found that it wasn't as good for the actual DVD portion.
Here is the problem.
You return a disk from Netflix on a monday they will receive it tuesday and often you can even have one in your mailbox on Wed of that week... if you watch them the day you get them and return them the next day you can easily get 2 turns per week... I think when I actually tried to see how many turns I could get it worked out to almost 2.5 turns per week.... which is a lot.
Now when I used Blockbuster I was lucky to get 2 turns per week and often was only able to achieve 3 turns every 2 weeks.
The real problem with Blockbuster was that they only operate their distribution centers on a 5 day week. They close on weekends, Netflix doesn't. So when you mail a DVD to netflix on a Friday they usually have it in their system Saturday and one will either be in the mail Saturday or at the very least by Monday. With block buster you will be lucky to have them check it in to their system on Monday and will likely only see them send out out on Tuesday if you are lucky and it could be Wednesday before they get one sent out.
Now your other problem is the fact that BB doesn't have as many distribution centers so that means unless you happen to live near one the delivery to and from that center can be more than 1 day.
Oh and let me not forget about my 10 days with no DVD being sent while I had a queue of 15 DVDs and 8 DVDs saying they were available now. When I finally got to speak to someone (sounded like they were from another country and was cut off 2 times before I could actually talk to them) I was told that sometimes their system shows movies as available, but the movies aren't available in the distribution center that serves you so the movies wont ever be sent unless they get those movies in the distribution center that serves your account... in other words the queue for BB is worthless... They don't bother to tell you which center will serve you and even if they did they don't tell you which movies are available in that center so you never know if what is showing as available is really available... and those 8 DVDs that showed as available were left at the top of the list for over a month and never once did they get shipped to us only DVDs below them... If we still used blockbuster I'm doubtful that we would have ever seen those movies.
Your upside to BB is that you can check them in at a local store. That was a plus...and BB does get new movies faster than Netflix or even Redbox.... but they aren't always in stock... rarely will they be in stock by mail and will usually only be available in the brick and mortal store... which isn't bad, except you also find that BB doesn't stock as many new titles as they used to. They may line the shelf with 40 display cards for a new movie but might actually only have 4 or 5 actual DVDs of the movie.
Frankly as much as I dislike the way Netflix treated everyone lately, I would recommend them over blockbuster for the DVD by mail service... even if you have to wait longer for new releases, they just provide faster service.
