"Black Lives Matter" - it's stupid. Just cut the crap.....

I have - and as long as they promote things such as the quote below, I won't be taking anything they say or do as a serious attempt to find real solutions:

"No matter how Wilson and Brown confronted each other, Brown was shot several times, including in the head. He was not wrestled to the ground or Tasered. In a matter of seconds, Brown was viewed expendable enough to shoot and kill."

Exactly this.

I have looked through their website as well. What I see and hear outside of their website is largely inconsistent with that list of "misconceptions" linked in the prior post.

If your movement is not based in TRUTH, it is not one I can support. This despite the fact that I do think there are some problems that need to be addressed: some in the criminal justice system, but far more wrt elevated crime rates in some communities.

Wow. Great response. Out of the entire website you chose to focus on that sentence. Once again 99% positivity and you manage to find one little part you don't agree with. I see you suffer from nearsightedness. You should get a prescription.

And what is the "Truth" then? What is the movement in fact based on exactly? Please enlighten me.

I mean things like acknowledging that Mike Brown was the aggressor -- that ALL investigations showed that Darren Wilson acted appropriately given the circumstance.

They exacerbate problems by perpetuating myths like "hands up don't shoot".

Things like that. Be honest -- or you won't have my support.

True. But the hope is that DIALOGUE (not a bumper sticker) can help change things where change is needed. :)

From what I've read, I haven't seen much change and growth. Just back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth and back and forth.

Of course that's what he did. There's a lot of people here who have shown they aren't open minded and nothing will change what they believe. That's why you get the same recycled answers for everything.
They'll always be able to find something to not like and use it to disagree.

So you want to hear people say that Darren Wilson was justified in killing Mike Brown. Okay, he was. The courts already determined that. So were does that leave us. It doesn't address anything whatsoever at all. THAT, my dear, is counter productive. I keep saying it wasn't about any one case but once again it always comes back yo Mike Brown, that thug who deserved to be killed. And sadly, hands up don't shoot is a message that needs to be spread amongst all black people and to our children and ingrained in our minds to protect us from being perceived as aggressive and thus shot and killed.

Would you include yourself in this category?

I didn't say it's always SUCCESSFUL... just that it's the GOAL (hopefully), and why the PURSUIT can be worthwhile. :)

Nah, it's just back and forth , back and forth.

I believe there is a problem with our society and instituional racism. If you want to convince me there isn't, it's not going to happen.
I don't know why you'd want to convince me of that though since people here keep saying they do think there's a problem but they just don't like BLM.

No we wouldn't because we have conceded to all of your arguments and points. WE AGREE! Yes blacks need not to be violent, EVER. Yes we should respect police officers and follow instructions. Yes many black people are poor and live in bad neighborhoods. Yes blacks perpetuate black stereotypes. Yes some black are criminals. YES YES YES YES. WE AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS and have said so many times. We agree just as adamantly that we need to change these issues. BUT THOSE ISSUES ARE ALL YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT. When we are trying to talk about bigger issues that need to be addressed you always tun it back to the above issues. We hear your complaints but you don't want to hear ours. We accept our responsibility in the situation, but it isn't ALL our responsibility. There are things outside of our control we need your help with. But you don't think there is a problem on your end, only on ours. Makes is pretty hard to have a conversation.

So many issues in this post...

Perhaps best to stop chanting this at peaceful protests. That perpetuates the myth and exacerbates the problems and divisions.

It doesn't address anything whatsoever at all.
I keep saying that I'd support any organization that sought to get to the core of why some communities see elevated crime rates, and how we might impact that in a positive way. THAT would address something that affects MANY -- inner city crime (large number of murders), police shootings (comparatively small number of killings). Anything that could actually address disparity in sentencing is something I'd also want to hear more about.

I keep saying it wasn't about any one case but once again it always comes back yo Mike Brown, that thug who deserved to be killed.
And this has been corrected MULTIPLE times in this thread. NO ONE "DESERVES" TO BE SHOT OR KILLED. Some shootings are justified based on the circumstance and some are not. But IF... JUST IF we could focus on violent crime, there would be fewer shootings of EITHER kind. That's something I would love to see a group really take up -- and I would 100% support.

And sadly, hands up don't shoot is a message that needs to be spread amongst all black people and to our children and ingrained in our minds to protect us from being perceived as aggressive and thus shot and killed.
I disagree that a falsehood needs to be spread to achieve a good end. We ALL should be respectful in our interactions with law enforcement (or anyone!).

It's just a bunch of racists being racists and everyone else getting muscle workouts from rolling their eyes.

I hope next they tell us all about how they have black friends.
Wow. Sad comment if this is what you've really taken from this thread.

ETA: Also sad to see anyone "like" this post who has actually been part of the dialogue here. Is that REALLY what you think?? Anyone who doesn't agree with you in this thread is just a "racist being racist"?!?!?

I agree re: institutional racism in some areas. I don't think that I see it in as many places as you've described in this thread, but I could be wrong. I also don't think that BLM is an effective way to address that problem. Any room for you potentially not being 100% correct in this thread?

Its actually the truth. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the most ignorant people on this thread are older, white americans that live in the south or midwest and were raised a certain kind of way. Unfortunately that is a good portion of our country.

And basically all I hear you saying is you are against black lives matter because they are based on lies. Because black men being killed by police being a major problem in America is a lie. So lets not address it, ignore their pleas for help, put them down and call them liars. Cool.
