My boyfriend and I are going to be in WDW for his birthday (the trip is my gift), and for our final evening, I was planning on having a nice romantic dinner at Citricos. Has anyone here ever informed any restaurant in WDW beforehand that one of the diners was having a birthday, and if so, what did they do? I would ideally like a small cake or something brought to the table with a candle or two (maybe even on the house!), but I'm not sure that's feasible. What do you all think?

I would call WDW-DINE when you arrive and have them note on your reservation that it is your BF's birthday. That does not guarantee any special treatment. Citricos may or may not do something, like a small cake. If you want to be sure something is done, I would contact Citricos that day, explain the special occasion and ask what you could arrange to make sure this is really special. Chances are they will be happy to "conspire" with you on something and who knows -- they may even do it at no charge. :)

I just took my son to WDW for his birthday. Everyone went out of their way to celebrate - to the point he started to get embarassed. All the restaurants brought him out a little cupcake with a candle for his birthday - no charge. I don't think the parade around the restaurant would fit in your plan - but my 7 yo loved it.

If you go into the parks, be sure to go to City Hall on Main Street in MK or to Guest Services in the other parks & pick up a "Today Is My Birthday" pin. He'll have a fuss made over him all day! Also, if you are staying on property, tell the front desk it's his birthday, sometimes they do something nice for you.

As for Citrico's, great choice! If you are wine drinkers, try their "wine parings". They perfectly match a glass of wine with each course. You'll be amazed at the delicious combinations. I've eaten at a lot of nice places, but the meal I had at Citrico's is one of my all time favs! ;)

Just a comment on the pin thing.

I got one for fun on my b-day in disney, 25, I know too old. And there was no fuss made, but I did get the button to keep so I was happy. Just wanted to warn you so if they don't make a fuss, your boyfriend or you don't get too dissappointed. I think the fuss is usually reserved for kids. But WDW is a great place to have a b-day!

I spent a lot of time poring over menus for different restaurants, and of course reviews on this site, but the 'wine parings' at Citricos was the deal breaker because we both really enjoy wine, and it seems nice to not have to worry about choosing the right ones!

Also, thanks to everyone for the input... The pin idea sounds really fun, even if he doesn't get as much attention as a younger person would! He's very young at heart (not that 24 is all that old), so he'll definitely enjoy spending his birthday at WDW!

On one of our trips to WDW was over my B-day. My wife made ressies at Tony's Town Square for dinner and they decorated our table with Mickey head glitter and sang Happy birthday to me with everyone twirlling ther napkins over there heads. Very embarassing, but fun. They did bring out a piece of cake with a candle, but the cake was on our bill. Not a freebie.
