Okay, I know we have a TON of threads on here about birthdays, but I have ANOTHER question.

I'm looking at the pictures of what they put in your room for an extra $30 for a birthday. However, the cake looks really small.

Have any of you gotten this, and what are your thoughts about getting it?

Thanks!

:bday:About the room decoration: We didn't buy anything, but our room host knew we were celebrating our birthdays, (because of our door signs), so he put one of those cool hanging Mickey cruise decorations in our room. It was probably left over from someone elses birthday, but I thought it was a nice thing for him to do.

:cake:The birthday cake would feed 4 people. It's a very thin layer of yellow cake, topped with a thick, sort of pink jello-mold type substance, topped with a thin layer of red jello, topped with an edible white chocolate ship decoration. The cake won't win any culinary awards, but it's a nice touch. Usually, you are so full from dinner, most people bring the cake back to their stateroom and store it in the fridge. Hint, hint, it doesn't fit too well.

The cake we got in 1999 was a very rich, chocolate mousse. That one was yummy.

We had the birthday decorations in the room and really, it wasn't worth it....they put a hanging hting in the middle of the room that was nice, a happy birthday banner over the couch and a small chocolate cake with white icing and sprinkles on it...the bithday cake ate the whole thing herself LOL...wasn't that big..she ate it in 2 sittings. Bring some stuff with you, hang it up while the kid is at the kids club and when they come back to the room that evening it wil all be up...or give your cabin steward some money and ask him to hang them up!

Our DS celebrated his 15th birthday on the last cruise-- we always tell them when making our booking of any celebrations, etc. At dinner that night, they brought him every dessert on the menu and a whole cake with a chocolate replica of the ship on top! This was all a surprise, no charge.

Thanks for the tips! I thought it looked pretty skimpy for the $30 bucks too, and the cake looked really small. I could get most of that stuff at Party City or Wal-Mart for a fraction of the cost.

I think I'll do the decorations like one of you said--while they are out of the room!

Thanks guys!

thanks for the info- we are cruising in Feb to celebrate dd's 5th bday and I have wondered if its worth the $30. I'm planning on buying some baskets from shirley for the kids but was up in air about this. I dont think I'll waste my money.

We're also cruising in February to celebrate my niece's 5th b-day and my pseudo-niece's 6th b-day. We're very excited since it will be my niece's 1st Disnay experience. She can't wait to spend her birthday with Mickey and the princesses!

Thanks for the info-- I was JUST debating whether the b-day package was worth it or not! Think we'll bring our own stuff!

Yes..thank you for asking the questin. We are taking DD on a cruise for her birthday in January and had planned on doing the 30.00 room decorations. In fact, me and DH had the same conversation about me just bringing decorations and doing it myself but he thinks we should just let them do it. But I think I am just going to buy the stuff myself and bring some tape. Much cheaper.

Well, we are sailing away on our first cruise next week, and the day that we set sail is my DH's B-day, so I decided to go ahead and get the stateroom celebration for him. I thought it would be something special for him, not to mention I thought it would be a lot easier if I just let DCL take care of it! :cheer2:

Last year we cruised on my son's 18th b'day. I didn't think the DCL b'day package looked like what I wanted, so I went to our local party store & found a lot of really nice things. I got those colored foil letters & spelled out "HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY XXnameXX" - with a bunch of different things in-between the words (star, heart, etc.), & hung it up in the room, along with a bunch of "18th B'day" balloons & banners & a couple of blowups of things he likes (be nice, people, I'm talking about a guitar, etc.). We also brought a birthday bag & put a bunch of presents in it for him.

I had also told DCL & the servers that it was his b'day & they had a cake that night & sang him HB. We ran down before dinner & gave them some table decorations & balloons & a picture of him when he was little in a HB frame & they had them on our table ready for us.

It really turned out to be a great b'day, he said.

Wow, your countdown says you only have 20 hours left...oh my, I think when my counter gets that close I won't be able to post here...I'll be freaking out.....!!! :Pinkbounc

We did not decorate for our DS's birthday, but did let our TA know when we booked that were were celebrating his BD onboard. They notified Disney and we had a cake one night at dinner. Didn't cost anything and the cake was big enough to share - not to mention the waiters sang to him, so he felt pretty special.
