We are surprising our son who is turning 8 years old with a trip to Disney World for his birthday weekend from Oct. 2 to 6. We've been to Disney many times (4 visits last year, 4 planned for this year) so we're somewhat experienced.

If money is not a concern, I'd appreciate any ideas you may have to make his birthday extra special. I've seen the Birthday buttons on people in the parks but I'm not sure what that entails. I'm also trying to figure out what restaurant would be the best to celebrate in for an 8 year old boy as well and how to order a cake. His actual birthday is on Oct. 3 so this may limit some of the dinner shows.

So if you have any great ideas, please share....the wife is depending on me!

To get a button go to any Guest Services and simply ask. It's so fun because they put his name and everyone wished him a "happy birthday" -even park guests(at least i do:goodvibes )!
Plus for my daughters 6th bday, we rode the Jungle cruise and they let her "drive" the boat and sang "happy birthday" to her!

I also recommend letting your resort (if you are staying on property) know and they will usually leave a card from him favorite character.

Where ever you are eating let them know it's a birthday and they decorate the table with confetti and streamers, and also bring a birthday cupcake or dessert.

Other than that I would plan to do whatever he's into. The kids pirate cruise might be fun, or fishing, or something at the campground like horseback riding or the new archery?

Good luck and have fun!:thumbsup2

Thanks for some new ideas. I wonder how stringent they are on the age limits for horseback riding. I noticed that they indicate an age limit of 9. Even though he's turning 8, he's a big kid.

Not sure, but I think they have pony's for little kids-and if he is physically bigger they might bump him up to a regular sized horse? Not Sure-you could call ahead and see what they say.:)

When my daughter wore her biirthday button last yr...we got the most attention from CMs in Epcot...they were wonderful in the World over there...

You can set it up to have balloons and such in the room when you get there.

Also..I'm sure if you go to his fave food place..and go to Disney..he'll be happy :)

We are planning a surprise trip for my daughters 9th birthday and we are planning a gifts of a lifetime experience (GOAL) - you may want to check it out.

I would love the info too. I have 3 girls, and we are making a trip in between all their bdays. Weird ?, would it be wrong of me to say that all 3 dd are celebrating bdays? ;)
