I'm curious.... What is the consensus on Birthday Pin etiquette?

Do you wear your Birthday pin ONLY on your Birthday?

Or do you consider the whole trip a Birthday celebration!!!

Please vote and explain why you voted the way you did! We will be there in July for my 35th :cool1: and I'm trying to decide the proper thing to do!!!

It's a free button. All it really does is get you birthday wishes from CMs, quite a few guests, and birthday reactions from the characters. Most people (with the exception of the Mad Hatter :) )won't really care (or even know) if you wear it after your birthday or not, so if you want to do it, go ahead.

I've been going to DL for my birthday for the past several years I always wear mine the entire time we are there. This was the first year that I've gone on my actual birthday though.

But like SK, no one will really know if it's you're actual birthday by your pin.

We wore our Anniversary pin for the entire week, since we were celebrating our 25th at Disneyland...... so I say, wear it & celebrate everyday you're there!!!!

we go on some ones bdays the last few years an we were them the whole time.

I voted for Birthday only. For me personally it would drive me nuts having people say happy birthday all week.

That being said, I truly believe that you should do what you want. The only rule is to have fun. :cool1:

I view the button as, "Hey, I'm celebrating my birthday!" So - wear it for your entire visit imo. That's what we did with our anniversary at WDW. :wizard:

Well we got DBF's on his bday, so he wore it that day and the next day which was the day we left. He did not wear it the 3 days (or was it 4?) prior to that. We go next weekend for my bday, I will get the button on Monday when I get my Fun Card, I will wear it the next day too. DD12turning13, our first day is her bday, we will get her Fun Card and her button and she can wear it as much as she wants to. DD9turning10 will have a few days before her bday but we will let her chose when she wants to get her button.

Our DS wore his birthday pin the whole trip (It was also his first trip to DL)and it really made the trip special. He loved the attention and it really made for a cool experience. :thumbsup2

OK... explain the Mad Hatter???

I assume it's b/c of the whole "very merry UNbirthday" thing. :) He cares about UNbirthdays, not birthdays?

The birthday buttons simply say "happy birthday", they don't say "today is my birthday", so they are for the celebration. If you're celebrating it only that day, wear it only that day! If you're celebrating the b'day during the whole trip, wear it the whole trip! It's up to you.

DS is very outgoing and loves his b'day, so I figured he'd want to wear his button last year all trip long. It was great for the day of his b'day. Alas, we were moving slow and didn't make it over to DCA as planned. So the next day we decided that day was his DCA b'day, and he wore it. But it confused him to get well wishes when he knew darn well it was not his b'day anymore, so, and I'll be honest here, after we went through the tortilla factory and got his free birthday pack of tortillas, he took it off. He was DONE with it being his b'day.

So it's up to you; there's no proper vs improper; they just want people to celebrate and be happy.

Now, the special b'day promo can only be "gotten" on the exact birthday and it requires proof that it's your day.

I figure if Disney can celebrate their Anniversary for an entire year, then I can celebrate my birthday or anniversary during my entire trip. :thumbsup2

I hope none of you have the experience my son did wearing his pin the day after his birthday.... He was young and excited about his "Birthday Trip" so the day after his birthday he had his pin on as we entered and a Cast Member let him know, loudly, that today was NOT his birthday since the park was just opening and there was no way he could have gotten the pin. My son was embarassed and crushed....
From that day on neither of mine will wear the button. So, for those of you who do wear them on other days, good luck!

What??? Who peed in that CM's Cheerios?? Geez!!!! Who cares, the button is for you to wear, you can wear it whenever you want to! Man, some people....

They celebrated more than a year! And YOMD was 2 years!

And what did the people at City Hall do when they heard about this? You went, right? Gave them the CM's name and what he did? Please tell me you did.

Especially because it's absolutely not true that he couldn't have gotten the button, because HOTELS have the buttons and they will give them to you at checkin. CMs at the ticket booths have them. Random CMs have them in their pockets. CMs might give them out the day before, so you're not inconvenienced the day of your b'day.

Or you might have done what we might do; we got a button for E last year, and we might just bring it back! They didn't put his age on it last year so it would work just fine.

The CM was wrong, you have to let your kids know that. It shouldn't happen again, the CM has to be told that he was very very wrong (not just in saying it, but in actuality he was wrong), and if it happens again, you have to make sure the CM knows it's wrong.

The fellow CMs (ask albort! ask glendalais!) URGE guests to celebrate throughout the trip. The CM at PPH in '07 who gave us our Anniversary buttons when we told her "our anniversary was last month exactly, but we didn't celebrate then we could celebrate now" urged us to wear the buttons through the whole week. All you have to do to get a button is say "I"m celebrating" whatever event...and that was even BEFORE the "what are you celebrating" promo.

You need to report that CM if you didn't already do so. They were both wrong and in the wrong.

No I did not report him. We were new to Disney and figured he was right... Boy have I learned since then. The worst part was it crushed my son and I spent the rest of the trip feeling it was my fault because I let him wear it the 2nd day.....

We will be at the parks tomorrow to celebrate my oldest sons 18th birthday and he is going to wear that button regardless!!!!

I wore my button proudly on our WDW trip and my b-day was approx two weeks after our trip. We went when we could and I went as part of my Bday! I had so much fun wearing my button!!

BTW that was a bad CM and he was wrong!!! :(
