My kids have a bday party tom. My son woke up with a runny nose this morning and I am not going to take him. If the other 2 are fine tom, is it still OK to take them? Or should I not go at all? I would hate for them to miss it, but I also dont want to get anyone else's kids sick.
Thanks
Tara

Is he running a fever?

If your son just has a runny nose and no other symptoms I don't see why he couldn't go. If he's really sick and can't go wouldn't he feel really badly if his siblings went and he couldn't? IMO I'm just not sure a birthday party is worth the kind of riff this could cause. It might seem minor to us adults but to kids it's a major issue. I guess it depends on whose birthday it is and other factors.

The guidelines on a runny nose for our school is if the fluid is clear, it's generally OK. They have to see a dr when they have green or dark yellow discharge.

Seems like kids have runny noses almost the whole winter....

Someone above suggested that none of the kids should go if he can't, but I'd look at the other side of the coin, too. Wouldn't the other kids feel bad if they had to miss a party even though they weren't sick? Personally, I think kids have to learn to live with life's little disappointments. If you're sick, you might have to miss a party, but that doesn't mean no one else will get to enjoy it. Just my two cents.

Anyway, I wouldn't keep him home from the party for a runny nose. If he's feeling crummy or running a fever, he'd have to stay home, but otherwise I'd send him. I don't think most people have issues with colds this time of year - they're sort of unavoidable. You could always call the host parent to see how they feel about him coming with a cold.

no just runny nose, its clear
I'd take him then. Doesn't sound like he has anything contagious. :)
