We'll be in Aulani celebrating a birthday. Looking for a nice restaurant, I would like to dress up. We are doing the other resort restaurants. I would like some where different on the island, definitely not the typical Waikiki touristy area. Family of 5.

Try Haleiwa Joes in Kaneohe. It's dressier than casual, though just about everything that is "dress up" is going to be touristy down in Waikiki.

I second Alan Wongs, the food is incredible. If you are looking for something close to the resort, Roy's is also very good. We usually get a table on the patio overlooking the golf course.

Are there any places with a great view? We will have the kids at Aunty's and have a rental car (though don't want to drive an hour out and back). It will be four adults. This is my parents' one and only trip to Hawaii so I wanted a place with great views and good food. I don't think Ama Ama is going to be the place based on reviews here. We are already eating at Monkeypod another night. It looks like Roy's is overlooking a golf course, and Alan Wang's, per their own website, is in an office building without a view?? Any other ideas or corrections to the above? Thank you!

Depending on your travel dates, you could try one of the new restaurants at the neighboring Four Seasons. We are going at Christmas and plan to make a couple reservations there since it will be a change from Aulani but still close.

Great suggestion and if you check out their website it seems they will have a fish restaurant (called "Fish House") that will be oceanfront with an option for dining directly on the beach. http://www.fourseasons.com/oahu/dining/restaurants/fish_house/

Another option is over at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club there will be a new Longhis that is scheduled to open May 1st in place of Chucks Steak House and I know from having stayed at this hotel before there are some lovely views to be had from the outside tables. Not quite beachfront but you can still see the water and palm trees-very tropical.

Thank you! We will be there the first week that the Four Seasons opens. I'm not sure if I want to be the Guinea pig at their restaurants, but it might be worth it since the views are going to be nice and it's so close! Great ideas!
