We are taking my son to WDW for a surprise 6th birthday on Dec 8th. What would be a nice place for dinner where he will get some attention. I heard too many people go to Chef Mickey so I was thinking of Ohana or Whispering Canyon Cafe. Any other ideas?

Ohanas is very cool for a birthday. We had my daughters 12th birthday dinner there. I've seen people have birthdays at Whispering Canyon and it looked pretty fun.

50's Prime Time Cafe would be another great place.

Beaches & Cream basically only serves hot dogs, hamburgers, and such. But you can order the Kitchen Sink for dessert and it's a pretty memorable experience.

If you have never been to chef Mickey's oh my your 6 year old son would love it. There is always someone celebrating something at every place you will c the free little cupcakes all over wherever you go, so pick what you would think he would enjoy the most. Ohanas is alot of fun too, but for little boy I vote chef Mickeys or crystal palace if he likes Pooh. GL

1) This is a vague and broad term.
2) Eateries do not give special attention.
3) There is pretty much a set routine
. . . most will giver cupcakes
. . . at most characters will wish happy birthday (usually by a gesture
4) Other "attention" is strictly up the CM at that time and day.
5) All depends upon the CM's
. . . attitude
. . . enthusiasm that day
. . . whether they like you
. . . phase of the moon
6) Expect little, and be pleased with whatever comes your way.

NOTE: There are hundreds of "special" days at WDW each day. If everyone's birthday, anniverary, etc were recognized, there would not be enough time or manpower.

FWIW-DS7 (soon to be 8-see PTR below) has eaten at many TS around the world and always asks for CM every time.

He loves the whole atmosphere and he has gotten a birthday cupcake. The characters have always thrilled him. He loves
mickey, twirling the bandannas , etc.

We have never done ohana, so I cant say much, but we do plan on 50s
PT as well.

Sci fi is fun-but a very different experience.

We are going for my middle son's 6th birthday on October 17 (it's a surprise too!). We are eating breakfast at Chef Mickey's with a WALL-E cake, have an appointment at the Pirate's League and then will go to DTD to eat dinner at T-Rex and to let him spend his birthday gift card. I'm trying to override his middle child syndrome. :rotfl2:

I originally booked Whispering Canyon, but my son would not like being singled out or teased, and frankly the menu does not appeal to me. My boys also like Sci-Fi, but it's more "cool" than a party atmosphere. O'Hana has some of the fun of Whispering Canyon (coconut rolling, limbo,etc..) without the teasing, and don't forget about viewing Wishes!

Whatever you decide, it will be wonderful! How can you go wrong with a birthday at Disney?
