Sunday 27th May cruising/at sea Tracy Arm
As I said, we have an early call and we have a cereal breakfast and make some hot drinks in our insulated mugs and then up on deck by 5.30am. It is extremely cold, raining, windy and very grey, as we sail slowly along the Endicott Arm. We should have sailed down the Tracy Arm but the mouth of the Arm was thick with ice, so the Captain and Pilot decide to take a detour to the Endicott Arm and the Dawes Glacier. We stroll round the deck and find a couple of spots where the vents were pumping out hot air, so we briefly sit on a couple of sun loungers and take some photos.
The views are breathtaking - waterfalls, ice bergs, whale tails and spouts, and plenty of birds. Rick and I need some hot food and to warm up/dry off, so we go into the Horizon Court. At approximately 9.00am the ship has got as far as it can along the Arm and as near to the head of the glacier that the ship can safely get to. The ship turns slowly round so that everyone can get a good view of the Glacier. The ship sets off to exit the Arm, and we meet Nina and Peter. They head back to their cabin, but on the way Peter shows us where one of the secret decks is. We stand here with Peter and Chris, who is still here, and spot some Bald Eagles and 2 whale spouts.
Back to the cabin to defrost and to sort out several loads of laundry. The ship has now set out to open water and we are on our way towards Victoria. We have lunch with Peter & Nina and head back to the cabin after lunch to sort out our laundry and put away some of our shopping. We visit the future cruise desk and place a small deposit on a future cruise yet to be decided, but we have 4 years to make that decision. 2 games of trivia today, but we only manage 2nd place. We stay and chat with Nina, Peter, Chris & Deirdre until 6.45pm when we have to leave to dress for dinner. We have reservations for Sterling Steakhouse. In order to provide a private area for a steak house, an area of the Horizon Court is screened off. The starters and steaks were OK, but the desserts were lovely. We get chocolates strawberries as a final treat. As we leave, the waiter asks us if everything was OK and I ask if there are any more strawberries. He promptly goes and gets me another 4 to take back to our cabin yum.
We make for the Vista Lounge for the Klondike Crew Show including a skit by the Cruise Entertainment staff at 10.00am, which is very funny. It has been an extremely long and exhausting day. The sea has been pretty rough this evening as we head out to open water. The clocks go forward tonight, but we are at sea so we can catch up with some sleep.
