Saturday 26th May port again, Skagway this time.
Up early today and we have breakfast as usual. We have already docked and the White Pass Railway has yet to arrive at the shipside. Our 8hr tour starts at 8.15am and we climb on board the coach and we head out of Skagway taking the Yukon trail with our tour guide/bus driver. As we climb up the mountain, the mist gets thicker and at times you cannot see very far in front.
But it soon clears and the snow on the mountainside is quite thick. We have very spectacular views and catch site of the White Pass railway making its way along the pass. We stop at some great locations along the way such as Tutshi Lake, once we have passed through the USA/Canadian boarder. A boarder control officer comes on the bus and inspects our passports. Just before lunch we stop at Emerald Lake and the smallest desert in the world at Caribou Crossing.
Lunch is at Caribou Crossing BBQ and we have chicken, baked potatoes, coleslaw and lovely cinnamon donuts. Ice cream for dessert and then a look at the Huskies. The bus moves off and head back towards Skagway and we stop at Carcross to have a Canadian stamp put in our passports at the local post office. There is quite a queue.
We meet the White Pass Railway at Frasier and get to ride in the last car. Rick spends the entire journey on the back plate videoing the trip. The views again are spectacular with waterfalls cascading down the mountainside as we pass. At Skagway, we have to wait on board until an inspector has seen our passports again, but once we are all clear, we head into town. Need to get some pins for my Dad from the Train shop and a couple of presents for nieces and nephews.
The ship is due to leave port at 7.00pm and we are back by 6.30pm. Just time for a quick shower and change and meet our team for early evening trivia. Yes, we win.
We have pizza again tonight in La Scala these were quite good. We purchase our photos from the gallery. Majority Rules Trivia tonight and we tie for first place with two other teams. We get some great prizes champagne and Alaskan Souvenirs.
We are late for the comedy show and creep into the Vista Lounge to catch the last 30 minutes of his show. He was very good, ending his show with silly signs that he has photographed during his tours around the US.
We are in bed by 11.30pm. We have a very early start tomorrow 5.00am wake up call for Tracy Arm.
