Tuesday 22nd May – it’s time to celebrate my birthday…again!
I’m awake at 6.45am. There was a lot a banging and crashing of doors last night and early this morning, so I sit in bed watching Good Morning Alaska…Princess’s own morning show. Breakfast is in the Horizon Court on Deck 14 and we walk up all 7 decks to get there. The sun is shining, but it is still extremely windy and the ship is rocking. The stabilizers help with the side-to-side motion, but do nothing for the forward and back motion.
Morning trivia is on deck 7 at 9.15am, but we arrive after the session has started so we just stand to the side and listen.
At 11.00am we are scheduled to meet the rest of the Cruise Critic group. Before the cruise, I joined in a role call on Cruise Critic and 16 of us agreed to meet. In the end, just 6 of us meet in Jammers – Peter and Nina, Chris and Deirdre and ourselves. We chat for about an hour, getting to know one another – Chris and Deirdre took part in this morning’s game of trivia and won. We arrange to meet again this afternoon and join forces. The 6 of us also arrange to have afternoon tea together. After our embarkation photos are purchased and we get a free scrapbook, Rick heads off to the Internet Suite as he has a computer session booked – Photoshop. I join the craft session learning to make boxes. After Rick’s computer session, we head to the Vista Lounge for the nature talk about our first stop in Sitka.
After a quick snack from the buffet, we head down to the Venetian Dining Room for Afternoon Tea. The quiz is at 4.30pm and we come 2nd, the group arranges to meet again for the evening Trivia. Rick and I return to our cabin to change for dinner. We have had balloons put outside our cabin for my birthday.
It’s formal night and after we’ve had our photos taken and won at trivia, we head for the Florentine Dining Room. We have opted for Any Time Dining, but don’t have to wait long to be seated. We share a table with 2 other couples and have a nice dinner chatting and eating some really nice food. The comedy show is at 10.15pm and once we have changed out of our formal clothes, we make our way to the Vista Lounge.
A quick check of the Internet cost $8.54 for 5 minutes, we return to our cabin and turn our clocks back an hour – Alaskan summertime.
The sea calmed down during the afternoon and we had a very smooth journey this evening.
