Thursday 7th June 2007 we go home!
We go home today, boo hoo. We had packed most of our stuff last night, so not much left to do. We dont intent to leave for LAX much before 1.30pm so the morning is ours.
The day starts off much like yesterday, beautiful blue skies and the sun is shinning. I make a call home just to remind them that we will be home tomorrow.
We are packed and ready to go by noon, and we finally say goodbye to Alexis at 1.30pm. The journey to LAX takes about 1hr 20mins, but were not sure what to do:
1. Park the car, check in and then return the car off-site to Dollar?
2. Drop me off at departures, Rick returns the car and then joins me taking the bus back
3. Drop off the car at Dollar and then take the bus to Departures with our luggage.
We decide on option 1 but as we approach check-in we are told to come back in 3 hours. So back a the car, we now take option 3 and find Dollar. Once this destination is plotted in Ricks GPS, we head back to the Airport and take Option 2.
This has wasted approximately 2 hours and we have had one almighty row. Silly really, but when you dont know where you are, the anxiety really kicks in.
We have an hour to waste, so I find a Starbucks in the arrivals lounge and purchase a coffee and a bottle of water for Rick.
We finally get to check-in which takes all of 10 minutes and then we queue for what seems like 40 minutes to clear security and get into the departure lounge.
LAX is not an easy or friendly airport to use, but then what airport is now days.
We decide to have Burger King as soon as we enter Departures as we havent eaten since breakfast. It was OK, but there wasnt much else on offer. We take our seats at the gate. I take a picture of our plane Soul Sister we have not flown on her before. Our flight is not due until 8.50pm and boarding is not till 8.00pm
We are late taking off 9.20pm, boarding process was a joke. Lot of people with children, jumping the queue and expecting to get on first. The flight was OK, we had two meals which were very nice. We arrive at Heathrow, 5 minutes early at 3.30pm.
We are in the arrivals lounge within 30 minutes, waiting for Dave to arrive and collect us. He wasnt expecting us to get through so quickly, and neither did we.
We are home by 5.45pm, it has taken nearly two hours. As we open up the house, we notice that the freezer had packed up whilst we were away, and we have to deal with all the rotting food and try and get rid of the smell, before we can even think about food this evening.
In the end we are eating fish and chips by 8.30pm and in bed by 10.30pm. Time to try and beat the jet lag again!
