Sunday 2nd June 2007 – What’s the 7th Innings Stretch?
Today we’re off to the ball game, so we’re up at 8.00am, but we’re not expecting Alexis until 11.00am.
By 9.30am, we’ve breakfasted and tidied up and emptied the dishwasher. Alexis arrives at 10.30am and has a quick breakfast as we have to leave by 11.00am. We head off to Orange County Airport to pick up Jose. He has been to Stockton to visit his Sister who is celebrating her birthday. Jose is waiting for us, so he puts his bags into the trunk and we are off and on our way to the Anaheim Stadium.
We have tickets to see the Angels play against the Baltimore Orioles – left field.
The national anthem is sung and the game starts off quite slowly. Some one asked us, if we knew about the 7th innings stretch? We said no, but then no one explained what it meant. So by the 7th innings, the Angels are losing and they start to bring out the Rally Monkey. Then, it’s the stretch and they really do mean stretch!
By the 9th innings, the Angels have their last chance to win. With one man on 3rd base, the batsman hits a home run and the game is over. We have had a great time at the game, eating nuts, sandwiches and getting our leg pulled about Brits at a baseball game. We have all got sunburnt, didn’t expect it to be so hot. The 7th innings, really was the turning point of the whole game.
Back home and we chill out – deciding what to have for dinner. We decide to have a BBQ and Rick and I pop out to Ralph’s for some food for the Bar-be!
After a great meal of burgers, salmon and turkey sausages all washed down with wine and beer, we watch Pirates 1 on TV again. Bed by 11.00am as we have an early start.
Great day, great company and great weather.
