31st May 2007 – Disembarkation

Our day begins today at 6.00am, but we are awoken at 5.00am with a lot of noise outside the cabin doors. We do manage to get back to sleep but only for another hour.

We are up on deck 7, but we have missed going under the Golden Gate Bridge by 30 minutes. We are just passing the seals on Pier 39. Up on deck 14, and I phone home. Yesterday, I kept losing the signal and gave up in the end.

The queue for immigration has already started to form, so with documents in had we join the end. The Officers are late getting on board ship, but we have cleared immigration by 7.20am and in time to join Nina, Peter, Chris & Deirdre for breakfast.

Finally, it is time to say goodbye. We promise to keep in touch and then collect our bags from our cabin and then wait in the Atrium for our colour tags to be called for disembarkation.

We’re off and on the coach by 10.00am. We have to wait, but finally the coach leaves for the airport. Once at the airport, we collect our car and on our way by 11.45am.

Our road trip begins in San Francisco and ends in Capistrano Beach and is fairly uneventful apart from all the rush hour traffic we end up joining in Los Angeles.

Road Trip statistics:
We covered 448 miles
It took 8 hours
We had two comfort stops
There was some stunning scenery including Pyramid Lake

So, we arrive at about 7.45pm and Alexis has been waiting for us and is busy watching Pirates 1. Once the bags are unloaded, she serves up a light supper of chicken and salad and we chat for a bit. At 10.30pm, Rick has to go to bed, and after another hour I have to follow. It has been a very long day.

Tomorrow we intend to just take it easy and just drive round the local area with Alexis to get our bearings. The weather today started our very misty over the bay, but as we made our way away from SF, the mist lifted and the afternoon was very sunny and warm.

8 hours is a long time to be on the road! glad the trip went well.
did you say 'are we there yet?'

Obviously great friendships were made on the cruise :)

I bet you were glad to get that drive out of the way! Now you can concentrate on relaxing again.

Laur's princess:

must have been great to finally arrive
