Tuesday 29th May 2007 – Victoria, British Columbia.

This morning we join the Victoria Highlights & Mt Tolmie tour, so after a quick breakfast we grab our coats and bags and head off the ship to get on the coach.

The city of Victoria is very picturesque – it reminds Rick of Scotland. Once through the town our first stop is Castle Craigdarrock. It is more like a stately home with lots of wood panelling. The coach takes us on to the top of Mt Tolmie, but only once we have taken a ride through the University campus, where we see lots of rabbits and a couple of Deer.

The view from Mt Tolmie is wonderful; you get an 180º view of the city and the surrounding mountains. The coach takes us back down to the town and we stop briefly to take pictures of the Governments buildings and Empress Hotel. Rick and I want to stay in the town centre, but the driver is under instructions to take us all back to the quay. This is a nuisance, as the town centre is a good 20 minutes walk away and when we finally get to the Dawn we only have 2 hours before the ship is due to leave dock. The trip to the town centre will have to go, but we need to make a quick trip to the local supermarket, and even that is 15 minutes away.

Back at the dock we have a quick look round the gift shop, as does everyone else, and then queue to get back on board. Rick and I both agree that we have made the wrong choice of excursion today, and should have done something else.

As we get back on board, we meet Nina and Peter and arrange to meet them in La Scala for Pizza, which is very enjoyable. They have spent this morning at the Buchart Gardens and I think we should have done this. We move onto the secret deck on deck 11 and watch Victoria as we sail away. As it starts to get a bit windy, Nina and I head down to the Vista Lounge to meet some of the Seeing Eye Dogs that have been on board with us – 10 in total and they are all beautiful.

Before afternoon trivia, we spend some time in our cabin reading books, sorting laundry and getting our clothes ready for tonight.

Tonight is our 2nd formal night and Nina, Peter, Chris and Deirdre and us are all eating together again. The dining room is very busy tonight and we have to wait to be seated. Don’t get a table until 7.40pm and because of this we have to leave before dessert as we have agreed to meet the rest of our team in Jammers for Pyramid Game Show. We don’t win but stay and watch some of the Karaoke even Deirdre takes part.

At 11.00pm, we join the rest of the passengers for the Champagne Waterfall and party in the Atrium. I have my photo taken pouring some of the champagne and we stay and enjoy some of the party.

At midnight, it’s time to call it a day, as we are dog-tired. We have had a great day and tomorrow is our last day and we will have to do packing.
