We have 2 children with us who will be turning 6 during our stay so we would like to order them a birthday cake. We were going to do this at cafe mickey eating with our half board vouchers. But it has just occured to me that half board gives us a 3 course meal so we will probably not have any room left for cake. :confused3 Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be better??

(we have half board vouchers for 4 nights and buffalo bills booked and were planning probably cs for our other meals but could be flexible)

which half board plan do you have?

half board plus. We were planning to use them at the steakhouse, walts, cafe mickey and the last set at face value in annettes with any left over from that at the cowboy cookout. Just started to think a birthday cake at any meal including desert is going to be a bit of a waste but was looking forward to doing it with the characters at cafe mickey.

Take the cake back to your hotel, we've done that at Cafe Mickey at the suggestion of our CM, at the Lucky Nugget a few years later, I requested that it be boxed up and was told that wasn't possible for safety reasons, think it's probabaly due to the fresh ingredients used in the cake, cream, mousse etc but I stood my ground and they found another sponge cake that I could take away. :)

we didn't have room for any birthday cake at Cafe Mickey last month, so our waiter happily boxed it all up for us to take away (even the candles :goodvibes).

Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't considered taking the cake away with us:goodvibes Not sure if we will get to eat it though as we leave the next day and are planning lunch at Walts:love:

It will stay fresh in the box for at least a couple of days after you get it - we we got ours on Friday evening and were still eating it for supper in our room on Sunday before bed :thumbsup2.

It would make quite a nice snack for the journey home:goodvibes

if you go to the auchan supermarket at the val d europe, the same cake in the same box is half the price at 13 euros  hows that for a bit of disney mark up?

We had a chocolate birthday cake from Cafe Mickey last week and they boxed it up for us without us asking complete with candles (including the one Stitch put up his nose :rotfl2:), and the expiry date was one week from the day we got it - so it ended up coming all the way home with us - yes it's crazy but it survived a detour through London and we've just had some for tea tonight - yum yum.:rotfl2:, not much left now and it doesn't expire until Tuesday!

Thanks for that. I think taking it with us is definately the way to go. Did you add your cake to your booking before you left or did you do it when you were there?

We added the cake to our booking (we don't normally book in advance but because it was Easter Monday and our daughers birthday we didn't want to chance it). You can however request one upon arrival (the table next to us decided to have one when they saw ours.) But to be on the safe side I would definitely pre book. We requested a chocolate one, but think there are the plain vanilla ones too.

I have a pic of it, will just find it and post for you to see.

Here you go - yum yum

Thanks for your help. That looks yummy but I think we will be having a plain one because one of the birthday children doesn't like chocolate. What I meant to ask is if you paid for it before you went or when you were there?

we added ours to our Disney package and paid in advance (£22). If you buy it at DLP and pay for it there its 25 euros. I have done both - I just ordered the birthday cake at City Hall when I was reserving my restaurant tables on my first morning in DLP. You then just get the cost of the birthday cake added to your bill when you pay at Cafe Mickey (or wherever you choose to have the birthday cake served).

Yes it was added to our bill, was 25€ (seems outrageous price but worth it) and if you're a shareholder you'll also get your 15% off too.

I had a result when paying for my cake in advance - paid the £22, got my voucher for the cake. When I asked for my bill at Cafe Mickey, I handed over my voucher and shareholders card.
The bill, when it came, included the full price for the cake (25 euros) and then the 15% was taken off the full bill, and after that the 25 euros that the cake voucher was worth was deducted.
It worked out that, using the exchange rate I got when I paid for the cake in advance, I paid less than 24 euros for the cake, and then had a saving of around 3 more euros in the way that the shareholders discount was taken before the voucher was deducted from my bill :goodvibes.

Wow that was good, more money for other goodies :rotfl2:

Wow that was lucky for you:goodvibes. With the current exchange rate I would save marginally by booking now (about 70p!!) and I need to phone to add buffalo bills anyway so I might just add the cake at the same time

Does anyone know if instead of asking for a birthday cake, you could ask them when your dessert comes, can you ask them to put a candle/sparkler in the birthday persons dessert?
