Hi,

We are off to DisneyWorld for Easter 2008 (22 March - 5th April). during our stay middle daughter is 12 on the 25th March. Does any one have any ideas as to how to make a special day more magical at Disney? Do they offer anything additonal if someone has a birthday, i.e. at the restaurants / character dining? Anybody out there celebrated a birhtday at Disney and would like to share tips?

Thanks

They do a great job as long as you ask them to. We made the mistake of not saying will you please send something to our room for our DD's birthday. However, even though we didn't do that (although I thought I had, and it must be 48 hours in advance), they still did something phenominal for our DD turning 6. When we checked in they gave us a birthday button for her to wear on her birthday, and put her name on it. It garnered lots of attention from the CM's and other park guests. It also got her special attention and autographs from the characters. When by late afternoon the hotel hadn't done anything, although as I said we thought when we checked in our asking if they did anything and having it in our reservation would result in balloons or something like that, my DH asked at the front desk. They said they usually, needed 48 hours, but would see what they could do. Well what they did in about 4 hours was amazing. She got a solid white chocolate Mickey with her name and happy birthday on it and cookies. They also gave her a birthday card and picture signed from Cinderella. She was in seventh heaven and I was so excited for her I called the front desk to profusely thank them. Now we were at the GF, so that may have made a difference, because my understanding it's usually balloons and a picture from the favorite character.

You can book a special dinner wherever you want and just tell them in the reservation and when you check in you have a birthday girl. You can do one of 2 things, request their standard cake for about $12 or just get the birthday cupcake. If you request it (the cake)before you arrive make sure to reconfirm it 48 hours in advance. She will get a special matt, and sometimes confetti and streamers. If you are at a character meal they will have one of the characters come to your table when you get the cupcake (cake) and sing Happy Birthday. We were at Chef Mickey's and so Mickey was at our table with an arm around her while we sang. She loved it. If you go to the Hoop-Dee-Doo they will single her out to the entire audience and maybe even have her participate in the show.

You can also order a specialty birthday cake. You must do it 48 hours in advance. You can pick it up or have it delivered. We ordered her a cake through the GF Bakery and had it delivered to our room. It was not supper cheap since we requested a white chocolate castle and pop-up with Cinderella on it, but it was really nice. My only problem, and from what I have heard others too, was everyone was so full from dinner they didn't eat more then 1/4 of the cake. We even had it delivered at 9:30 p.m., we had a 6:40 reservation, and still no one ate it. If you want to go this route I would almost do a late lunch at like 4:30 and get the cake in the evening so you eat it and it's more worth the money you spend.

I have no doubt if you wanted to bring something down, or buy something special and have the front desk deliver it for you, they would be more then happy to do so. You really just have to ask for what they will do and take advantage of whatever they are willing to offer.

By the way my DD's birthday is March 31st. !

When you go to the parks, go to guest relations at whatever park you're at...they will give her a button proclaiming her b-day and she can get a phone call wishing her a happy birthday from a character! And...keep it going. Let her get a button at every park...let them know at every ADR!!!!

We just got back from DL where we celebrated DS's 11th birthday. Definitely get the birthday button. My son wore his and got lots of special attention. Everyone said happy birthday and a couple of times cast members had everyone around him sing or tell him happy birthday. He was pulled into the parade (block party) to dance because they saw his bd button and one cast member even gave him a pin. He said it was the best birthday he has ever had.

They have a party at the Plaza Inn called "The Happiest Birthday on Earth". It was so much fun and well worth the $$$. Does anyone know if they do something like this at WDW?

This is hubbies thread, but thought I'd pitch in!!

She's decided she wants to go to Animal Kingdom and have a character breakfast at Restauranosaurus.

Thanks for the tip on going to guest relations and getting a birthday button!

We're not staying in onsite hotel - staying at cypress pointe grand villas and we're planning a special dinner, but haven't decided where yet, but at one of the disney restaurants, possibly in one of the hotel restaurants.

When we do eventually choose - we'll make a reservation and mention the birthday as part of the booking.

A few years ago, we celebrated my son's third birthday in Disney. We did the button thing, and had the cupcake at dinner, and he received balloons and an autographed picture of mickey and minnie at the hotel. Besides that, we planned to have his birthday party in Disney. We set it up at Typhoon Lagoon, and we had a private pavillion for the entire day. We had pizza, soda, and cake. There were toys on the tables for the kids (we only had him and his sister so they got to them them all home). THey both received a pail and shovel with their names on it. We had a blast and it was totally worth the money. Because our tickets had the water parks with them, we only had to pay for the party, which was like 127.00 for 9 of us. We would definitely do it again!

One more suggestion. On the first morning I sent my DH downstairs to the car with DS. While they were gone I put balloons all over and put out a gift basket that I made myself. The best thing in it was a Disney digital camera. They have a mini for $20.00 or a larger one for $40 or $50. I got him the Pirates one but they also have a High School Musical one. That was the best gift he got. He was able to take lots of his own pics and it came with software with Disney borders etc. he loved it!

I am celebrating my birthday in WDW in June with my BF.
Right now I have planned to spend the day in MK, I have breakfast reservations at Crystal Palace(right now its not noted on the reservations that its my birthday breakfast, should I call and add it, or just tell them when I check in?) and I also have dinner reservations at 1900 Park Fare which I did have noted its my birthday. I am also planning on ordering the mini castle cake for dinner. and I think the BF has some special being delivered to the hotel, but I have yet to figure it out lol
I am also going to get the birthday.
I am sure whatever you do in disney world with your daugther, will make it a very special birthday for her.
