Birth Certificate Question

We've all gotten our certified birth certificates for our upcoming February 13, 2005 cruise and when my dad got his, his name was different from his driver's license and Social Security card--the first and middle names are inverted on the BC. Will this be a problem when he checks in at customs??? Will they not allow him on the ship because of this??? The date of birth matches....

Susie B, I am not sure if they will take it or not. I am guessing that you dad does not had a passport. If he does, he could use that instead. Your sailing is pretty close, so it probably would not make sense to get a passport now if he doesn't have one. You can order one to be processed quicker, but it is pretty pricy (I don't remember the cost though).

However, techincally his Driver's license and Social Security card are wrong, not his birth certificate. That lists his name as submitted by his parents back when he was born.

Not all that uncommon a situation. My wife's step-father got into a big argument with his older brother over what my wife's stepfathers middle name was. Somehow he made it to age 63 without a copy of his birth certificate. So he ordered one, and found out his big brother was right. Somehow he had enlisted in the air force, paid taxes, and was getting social security benefits, and gone 45 years of his life giving everyone the wrong middle name.

Well, just got off the phone with Disney Cruiselines and they told me to call the Immigration Office--they will be the ones to either allow or deny ship boarding. My dad has never needed his birth certificate until now and we don't have time to do a legal name change through the State of Maine. I hate to get a Passport, though, they're quite expensive I hear and he will never use it again... I'm going to call Immigration first thing in the AM & I'll keep you all posted!!

Just any FYI if you choose to get a passport you might not need to pay extra fee to get it quick. We got all our passports in under 3 weeks. we all got ours at seperate times.

Well, we've been trying to get through to Immigrations with no luck. My mom decided to contact the SS office and apply for a name correction and did the same with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and went and got my dad a corrected driver's license. So I guess we're all set.
