I realize I need to bring birth certificates for my children but I was wondering which ones to bring. I have both the full size and a smaller laminated one both have an official raised seal on them. The smaller ones would be more convenient but I want to make sure I bring the appropriate one. For myself if I have a passport so I don't need my birth certificate right?? It seems the closer we get to cruising the more forgetful or I should say worried I have become over having the proper documents.

Yes, if you have a passport then you don't need to take your BC.

As for the kids laminated ones, I would give DCL a call and ask them. I don't see why they wouldn't work as long as they have the raised seal but I would still call and make 100% sure.

It would really stink to get there and then not be allowed to board.

Call me crazy, but my DH and I always carry 2 sets of IDs when we travel. He carries one of mine, and I carry one of his just in case one of us has our bag swiped. If it were me, I would pack that big certificate away safely just in case.

Calling DCL is the best advice. I have never seen any of these mini birth certificates, but have seen them mentioned here before. I have been involved in Little League baseball for the past five years, and we require a raised seal birth certificate with parents names on it. So I think the mini-birth certificates are useless. They require them to prove when your child was born, where he or she was born, and who has custody of them, ie, who their parents are. Do I understand correctly that the mini certificates don't have the last information? They want to make sure you have legal custody of the children.
It has also been mentioned here that parents who are divorced, have a differnet last night etc need extra legal documents to prove they have legal custody.,
