Just read that Billy Hill and the Hillbillies are moving to the Festival of Fools arena starting June 18th. Kind of makes me sad because I love the Golden Horseshoe and seeing the show in there. I wonder what they will use the Horseshoe for other than a place to grab a snack and get out of the heat? Here's the excerpt:

"Starting on June 18, they will be moving out of the Golden Horseshoe Saloon for the summer and heading north to the Festival of the Fools arena (didn’t think that one through, eh?) to play in a larger venue and hopefully help to absorb the giant crowds the Resort is expecting this year. Frankly, I would be hard pressed to suggest a better way to spend a bit of time in the shade during a hot summer’s day. "

We were actually planning on eating at the Golden Horseshoe to see a show this October. Have never eaten there before because of the food offered(hubby was not fond of the choices) but, had talked him into it. Guess now we will find another place.

When they were moved to Big Thunder Ranch a few years ago, the Golden Horseshoe had a Woody and Friends show that was cute.

I hope they bring something for the Golden Horseshoe.

Yeah, why are they being moved? I don't get it. We LOVE Billy Hill and the Hillbillies and see them at least once if not more during our trips.

I hope this is not permanent. I don't have any clue how I would break this to my DH, dad or brother. Billy Hill has been a staple in our family for at least 20 years!!!

This actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Billy Hill and the Hillbillies has become extremely popular. They need a larger venue and come summer, the schools will no longer be using the Festival Arena. This frees up this space for them to perform in a venue that could have a lot more seating space.

As for what is being put in the Golden Horseshoe, they are putting Laughing Stock inside.

Again, this makes sense, as they can handle a larger crowd inside than outside and given the expected crowds this summer, they probably need all of the space they can get.

Now, if we can just get something going in Aladdin's Oasis, they will have a lot more of the dead space used this summer.

As for if this is a permanent change, I don't see how it can be, as the Festival arena will most likely be used for the school groups come winter. So my guess is that if this system works out, this will be the summer setup and the winter setup will be as it stands now.

The Laughing Stock Company has been inside for some time now. I saw a show there in summer 2010. They do some shows outside and some inside, it depends upon the day. I wasn't able to catch them this trip, gonna have to fix that next time. I did see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies though, they were awesome. Perhaps if they have a bigger venue they'll do a more involved and longer show? That would be awesome.

Yes, they are inside, only on days that Billy Hill and the Hillbillies are off (I believe it is Mon. and Tues.

When they are inside they do indeed do a longer, more involved show.

Also, if you enjoy Laughing Stock company, you should go to the All American Melodrama in Long Beach, if the owner is there you will probably recognize him from Laughing Stock.

Ooh, thanks for that, I'm going to have to check that out next time I'm down there. I love those guys.

I'm going to miss them being inside the Horseshoe. It has become a family vacation staple to see them there. I personally didn't care for the Laughing Stock show.

Anyone have a picture of the festival of fools area?

I'm going to miss them being inside the Horseshoe....

I think the intimacy of the golden horseshoe venue and interaction with the audience is one of the reasons the show works so well there. I will be intersted to see how it works in the new location.

Billy Hill in the BTR Jamboree today.

It is shaded, however there are benches instead of chairs to sit on. The benches and tables are set up like picnic tables
