Are we going to do a Biggest loser challenge on WISH again this year? I feel so out of control right now, and desperately need this. Anyone interested? If so, when should we start it?

This is now the official sign up thread, please join us for this wonderful challenge! Below is a description of the challenge in OhMom's and dare2dreams posts.

* We will have our official starting weigh ins on September 4th. That is the day of the Biggest Loser Reunion show. Weigh ins will then be on Tuesdays... same as the show.

So when do you guys want to start?

2 options...

Starting weight weigh-in next week Tuesday, starting with the Reunion show then we complete our first week and have our first weight loss weigh-in on Tuesday September 11th, which is the starting day of the first season.

OR

Starting weigh in on Tuesday September 11th, the first day of the official season.

I'll also post this on the Biggest Loser thread as well, since some people are over there.


Brenda, thanks for offering to organize this! I know that Ohmom was organizing it last time, lets see if she has any words of wisdom, or if she wants to also help organize.

Please add me in. I have done well with my exercise, but not so great with my eating. I could use a little extra motivation. I have my WDW vacation in just over 2 months and I want to lose 15 more lbs.
 
For me and anyone else that was not around last year can someone please explain what this challange is all about?
 
I was not involved in the last WISH Biggest Loser challenge but here's how I think it goes:

Those wishing to participate are divided into teams with colors like in the show, red and blue (will we add black this time around?).

A team captain is appointed for each team and a support thread is started for each team.

Each team member weighs in each week on the designated day and reports their weight change to someone (team captain or organizer??).

A weekly summary is posted and a team winner declared for the week. Not sure what happens at the end of the competition.

I believe the challenge just keeps track of pounds lost. It might be hard to determine percentage of weight lost without original weights and I don't think that info was required of participants. Experts please correct me if I have given any incorrect information.

Being part of team is sometimes great motivation to help us stick with what we know we need to do to get to our weight loss goals.

::yes:: we can divide into three teams, we actually had three last year b/c of the number of WISHer who wanted to join

Teams had a weekly thread to support and encourage each other, it's really up to the team captain, but weekly threads work well

We didn't declare a weekly team winner, we did however brag on our progress. Last year WebmasterPete was able to donate a few small prizes

actually the winners were determined by percentage -- each participant's "original" weight was their starting weight on the first weigh-in. So the challenge was actually based on weight loss during the challenge time period, by percentage.


i would :love: to be a part of Biggest Loser WISH style -- Round three. Brenda, thank you for offering to organize, etc; would you be willing to be a team captain? I can help out too, or just give you the info from last year (more detailed)

what i would suggest is starting an sign-up thread, or PV you can edit this thread's title and make this a start up thread. We can track on your first post who has signed up and who is willing to be a team captain (If you don't mind my editing your post too as folks sign up) Sign-ups over the weekend aren't much time, but i think we'll get the majority of interested folks. I'm sorry not to have organized something sooner, i have been quite busy. there is still time though!

Team captains -- please think this over before making the commitment, each team needs someone (or co-captains) to track each team member's progress. I used an Excel spreadsheet and it was very easy. I can email anyone a start-up version. Besides the weekly weigh-in tracking, the team captain should ensure that a weekly thread is started, and most importantly keep the team members involved so to avoid drop-outs!! nothing pushy, but keep the team spirits high, check in with MIA team members, etc. i'm not saying it all has to fall in your lap, but making sure it's all done is the captains job.

so team members share their actual weight with the team captain only -- who keeps it confidential

Beyond that, we had some weekly friendly challenges, the winning team was able to sport a clippie in the signature for bragging rights until the next team challenge.

I would like to say, however, that our BL challenges varies a bit from the show. First off, we are commiting ourselves to losing weight, getting healthy and encouraging each other. We all love to watch the show, but I'm not comfortable endorsing the rapid weight loss and heavy-duty mega workouts. We didn't have anyone in the past taking this challenge beyond the scope of healthy weight loss and i would encourage everyone to keep that spirit again this year.

and most of all -- it's for FUN! it's to get excited about positive changes and having a group to share it with, and keeping each other accountable.

Hi Guys!

Thanks OhMom and dare2dream for such a wonderful explanation! The only other thing I want to add is that we don't vote anyone out either! We keep going and support each other. I will go edit the title of this thread to the official sign up. And I would also like to throw my hat in to be a team captain!

I'm in. I tried it last year but it was not a good time. This time dh has to watch what he eats so it will be easier.

I would be willing to be a captain.
 
Let the challenge begin. This will really get me motivated. I am so excited.

I can team captain if needed. Do we usually use DIS PM to communicate weight losses or regular email?

This sounds like a great idea . . . I would love to play . . . however I will miss the first weight loss weigh in on the 11th b/c I'll be in Disney. Is that ok?
