Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Team Challenge for Losers and Maintainers!!!

QOTD: My first thought was a place in Florida and the means/time to go there! Then I read Pamela's answer and realized that's what I should wish for, too: kids' college paid for!

Well, I ran yesterday and my bandage fell off. I have a lovely blister and blood-stained shoes! Couldn't get it all off, but guess no one will ever see it since my foot will be hiding it! oh well

This morning instead of my usual stretching/spine alignment class we had a tap dance instructor come in. That was kinda fun. Not that any of us are ready to soft shoe the night away!

Congratulations to all our biggest losers! Great job everybody.

LTS-good for the sub job, but  to the secretary and her family. I've done that many times, taken a longer term assignment and then thought, "What have I done?!" You and your family will do just fine; you've gotten some great advice already.

Well, DS2 said he would go over the mountains with me to visit inlaws and babies. I'll need to check the pass conditions then call inlaws and get it arranged. We'd leave Wed. and come home Thurs. DS1 gets back Thursday night/Fri morning. They played 2 games yesterday and are 1-1. My parents watched the first one. It was cute to talk to them about it. "He played so good....Well, no he didn't get on base...he had a marvelous scoop, even the other team parents commented on it...we were sitting in 'enemy territory' so couldn't cheer too loud...it was just so much fun to watch him...he gave us a big hug afterward then somebody passed out Subway sandwiches and the boys ran to the vans and they were off to the next game before we even got to our vehicle."

DS2's girlfriend is coming over this afternoon. It's just after 8 AM here so I think I will make banana cookies out of a couple old bananas, read the paper and make a grocery list. Hopefully the rain will stop at some point today and I will get the dog out on a walk.

Have a super Tuesday!

QOTD for Tuesday, 3/27: Pretend that today is your birthday. What is one gift you would like to receive? I cannot be health related or something like worldwide genuine respect.

Well, my birthday was just a couple of days ago...but I didn't really wish for anything. A BodyBugg or something similar would be nice. But a week long stay at WDW at the Animal Kingdom Resort in Concierge level during either food and wine or christmas would be PERFECT!! :thumbsup2

Oooo, I would love a copy of that recipe if you still have it! :)

I do! I saved it in my favorites in the app. :) I'll PM it to you.

My QOTD birthday wish...I suppose I'd like 30% down on our next house dropped into my lap. We're okay where we are, but the space is getting tight, and we know it'll be a couple of years before we're able to sell and buy as we'd like to. Things could be *much* worse, and we're lucky folks, but if I'm birthday wishing, there it is. :)

I'm sad today over the sudden death of a friend in California. He was 62 and had a terrible case of pneumonia that took his life last night. He visited our neck of the woods every couple of years, and we always went to a wonderful greasy spoon near my office for cheeseburgers and fries. Since today is my in-office day, I think I'm going to suspend the on-plan eating and go for a cheeseburger in tribute. Sad, heavy heart. :(

Jill,

Yes, it's the fish extender. Here's the thread here on the boards that can describe it best for you.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2860557

Got several ideas. Going to do some other planning tonight.

Ash has to stay for play practice so I have a few more minutes to myself. I need to run to CVS to pick up some shaving cream, kleenex and a prescription so I will head out now and then pick up Izzie. I still plan on doing my ab workout later.

TTFN :tigger:

Soooo...the fish extender is so stinking cute! Good luck with ideas. Do you need me to tag along on the cruise? :rotfl:

It's snowing like crazy here so I'm glad to see that the forecast is for sunny and 84 in Arizona! :sunny:

See you all in few days! :wave2:

I'm sorry...we are not allowed to say that 4 letter S word in our house anymore :rotfl2:

Ah, it's 3 bites not 3 servings.

This cracked me up!

QOTD for Tuesday, 3/27: Pretend that today is your birthday. What is one gift you would like to receive? I cannot be health related or something like worldwide genuine respect.

If it was seriously my birthday, I would probably ask for a heart monitor that attaches to my iPhone for when I am spinning (so I can figure out how many calories I'm burning). But, if I could really have ANYTHING, I would ask for college tuition paid for DH (who graduates in Jan) and for both my boys!

I really need to get back to posting more... :sad2:

Went to a wedding shower for a friend of ours over the weekend, and while I did eat a cupcake :scared1: I didn't eat all the super sweet frosting (just don't have the taste for it anymore) and I ate sensibly the whole day and at the party so I'm pleased. :goodvibes

So I've decided to take the plunge and am planning to do the Princess 1/2 in February! :yay:

I'm scared to death...mostly of getting swept or wearing out... But I really want to give this my best shot. The thought of going over 13 miles in one day is really daunting at this point, but then again, I never thought in January that I'd be able to do 2.5 miles at once and now it's no problem. Plus the race isn't until February so I know I can do this!!

Hopefully I can find someone here to run it with me since my DM has already said that she'll go to WDW with me but she won't be running with me. ;)

Going through old VHS home movies to get some put on DVD. Lots of good memories. Still kind of hard to see videos with my grandma in it though...

So glad you did well at the wedding shower and I'm so excited you committed to the Princess 1/2. I really want to run it, but I think finances will get in my way. So, I'll live vicariously through you and I'll cheer you on from PA!!

I forgot to weigh in Friday. Then was out of town and totally forgot this morning to check in on the scale. I've been feeling crummy off and on and I want this health stuff to go away already. Anxiously awaiting results from the rheumatologist. He should be getting my blood, urine and chest x-rays if he hasn't already.

We(my brother, daughter and I) left Friday evening and went north out of town about an hour away and stayed at a hotel with good friends of ours. I had some anxiety symptoms on the way there but once my dramimine kicked in it seemed to relax me some so when we were getting ready to head slightly north of there to go find a lake I took another dose and was good all day so did it again on way home and fine too. The rest of the weekend was okay but today I've been feeling off and dizzy.

We just went to find some sites and a lake to teach the kids to fish. It was proving difficult all the entrances were closed from water and snow leaving them soft. Finally a park ranger told us of an entrance we could walk to the lake from pretty easy. We didn't think we'd find snow but we did. I have lots and lots of pics so sorry I go overboard on sharing. :goodvibes

Friday night when we got into Payson, AZ we specifically got a hotel with a indoor heated pool and hot tub. hehe. ;)

Your pictures are amazing. It looks so beautiful there.

Good morning all.

Sorry to have been MIA for the last couple of days. I was away to the UK over the weekend....managed to stay OP while eating out, which is encouraging for my upcoming vacation. Now I am super busy getting ready to depart for the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy on Friday.

Congratulations to all the Biggest Losers. Excited to see my name up there. top spot still eludes me.....but I will keep trying.

Hope all is well for everyone. just wanted to stop in and say hello.

Christopher

I can't believe your trip is here already! I'm sure you'll do great eating.

So far, so good! If I can stay OP from now till Friday I should have a nice weigh in!

Yay! Good luck!

I did not however get a workout in because DS11 informed me that he needs to be Alexander the Great tomorrow, so we worked on costumes for that. Today I need to finish that and paint stuff for DS10's Blacksmith diorama so he can build that tonight, also due tomorrow. Love my kids!!!! LOL

OK, off to goodwill to find a roman warrior helmet!! I knew I should have kept DS15's warrior costume!!

Aren't kids funny how everything is due the next day? Oh wait, that's my DH :rotfl2:!!!

Well, DS2 said he would go over the mountains with me to visit inlaws and babies. I'll need to check the pass conditions then call inlaws and get it arranged. We'd leave Wed. and come home Thurs. Have a great trip to see those babies :)

I have to run to get my kids from school, so I'll be back later to catch up some more!

Hi Everyone!

I apologize for not getting on here sooner. It has been one crazy day for me. It started with waking up with the alarm, which I set so I'm not too lazy, and being productive for about an hour. Then, I knew I needed a nap and feel asleep for over 90 minutes! :scared1: I just slept for 9 hours! :scared1: Well, the problem was I had 90+ minutes straight of nightmares. :headache: I am still waiting for a call back from my doctor, but it took until after 2 PM for me to stop feeling disoriented and naseous. It was awful. :headache:

I will be back later for replies. I apologize if I do not make it back on tonight.

Well-- finally went to the doctor. It's a good thing I did because the crud decided to settle in my chest. I'm taking prescription cough medicine with codeine, and amoxicillin. Gonna try to at least stay awake the rest of the day...feeling kind of better right now, started with the meds yesterday about 2:30.

Just a quick chime in here...... it is nice to avoid allergy triggers if possible.... especially if you specifically KNOW that someone attending the function has an allergy, but you can't avoid EVERYONE'S allergies, so don't make yourself crazy. I think it is more important that things are LABELED so folks can make informed decisions. Obviously nuts (tree nuts and peanuts) can be an issue for many people, so maybe best to avoid those. But you never know what kind of strange allergies someone might have..... my DS is highly allergic to poultry and pumpkin.... but I don't expect to show up for T.giving dinner and find just a tofu turkey and apple pie. I just need to be able to make informed choices for him.
ITA with this.:goodvibes And I will add that I would never want someone to make something special for me. At the end of the day, I am the one that is responsible for my health/allergies. I think most people with huge food restrictions are used to byof (bring your own food ;)). I am really sensitive to even minute amounts of gluten, so someone else might not really understand that. And I am guessing that people with severe nut allergies would not chance eating something they weren't 100% sure was safe.

When it comes down to it, it is only food.:goodvibes That is what having to give up gluten has taught me. It is more important that I feel like I am welcome somewhere no matter what I eat. And while I would be very appreciative of someone making an effort, I would never expect it.:goodvibes

*****
First time on the merged thread.:goodvibes I have not done great with keeping up with the weigh-ins but I try to read when I get a minute.

I am Rose, 44, gluten free, mostly vegetarian. I lost 50 pounds in 2010. I put a few back on--which is not a bad thing.:goodvibes I am currently a couple of pounds outside of my maintain range, but I'm ok with that. I am feeling healthy, which is what really matters.:goodvibes

I have been gf for over a year now, and I can honestly say it is the best thing I have done for my health. I am a runner and have completed 6 half maratons. Because of some back issues, I now do yoga a couple of times a week. I prefer cardio, but I tolerate yoga.:thumbsup2

If anyone needs me for something specific, it is better to send me a pm, since while I try to keep up with the thread, I am not always successful.:goodvibes

Nice job! :thumbsup2

Quotd recipe--grilled cheese.

I’ll see what I can do. I am sure using a “light” bread would help. :)

Well-- if it's something huge like a trip...there's a house I'm in love with a few blocks over. It's little, cute, kind of old with a huge backyard. I noticed it last summer when I found some great free stuff on it's lawn and I realized it was an old mans house that probably went to a retirement home or died. It's been empty since, and for sale.

Sounds nice! :cool1: I love having a big backyard. We could actually go sledding because we have just enough of a hill, although we did have to watch out for the pool. ;)

Thanks for all the advice CC. I am planning on serving some of the "standards" ... meat tray, fried chicken, salads, rigatoni, possibly pulled pork sandwiches, munchies. I plan on buying cakes (one with his high school colors ... and one where he decides to go ... no decision yet).

Families and friends will be invited from 5-7, then my son's friends will be invited from 7-9 for munchies and anything that is left over from the dinner. This is what parents have done at the parties we went to last year.

I saw on a DIS thread where someone had root beer floats ... where the root beer was on tap. I am going to look into that also. I have just started with the guest list and there are a lot of people ... and it is mainly family right now .... ugh.

I like what Pamela and Rose said about allergies. I have a teenage neighbor who is friends with someone who is allergic to apples. Allergy testing said I am allergic to rice. I removed it from my diet and then put it back in, as I was told, and found out I’m not allergic to rice, but I had no idea you could be allergic to it. :goodvibes

Love the idea of root beer on tap! :thumbsup2 My college did this for an event and it was one of the best attended events! As an Orientation Leader, I went to as many events as possible and very few compared to this one!

Hi Melissa! Love the pictures! :goodvibes for your test results.

I would have my bills paid off so that when I retire I have less to think about. They are lower than they have been in a while but dh is talking of retiring next year and I will probably go a year or two later so it would be nice to have our affairs in order. The best thing about retirering will be that we will be paid during the summer for the first time. We don't work during the summer but work to put as much money in the bank during the school year so that we don't have to.

That will be a nice change! :yay:

Congratulations to all the Biggest Losers. Excited to see my name up there. top spot still eludes me.....but I will keep trying.

Congrats! Enjoy your vacation! :goodvibes

Tracey: How are you feeling? :goodvibes Glad you got some sleep!

Full college scholarships for both my kids.... including living expenses, books, and a car allowance!!!

Great choice! :thumbsup2 Free books alone would have saved me around $2000. They add up too fast. :scared1:

My MIL's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I always mean to try those "bean" brownie and cookie recipes, but I never have.

I saw those at the semi-local gluten free bakery. I wasn’t sure about them so I passed, but I may do try them out the next time I am visiting my friends. I picked up some GF cupcakes for the birthday party and they were really good. I’m not sure what their ingredients are though. :goodvibes

A Chanel J12 watch? No, seriously, probably something more practical like a bike! Like a good bike. I want (need) one. I would use it all the time. We have two local bike shops. I want to go get fitted for one. I know they are expensive ($600-over a thousand dollars). Does anyone on here bike? What brands are good? Any advice/tips? The brands that seem to be popular here are Specialized and Trek.

Buying a bike is something on my spring agenda. We have 2 local bike shops too. We have the bike path and it is such a relaxing ride, but I need a bike first. I had no idea they were so expensive. :scared1:

Of course, there isn’t anything wrong with a Chanel watch! :cool1:

QOTD for Tuesday, 3/27: Pretend that today is your birthday. What is one gift you would like to receive? I cannot be health related or something like worldwide genuine respect.

I would love a hunk of cash, I want to pay some things off. Or a trip would be nice too. We want to take the kids to the UK but it's expensive!!

Cash is always a good thing! :cool1:

Nice job with dinner last night! :woohoo:

QOTD- I would want all the money I will need to get through school, both nursing and anesthesia-wise. AND all the money I will need to live off of during that time- including rent, car/insurance/gas, food, and fun money (that includes enough to go to Disney, of course ) I say rent because I need a calm quiet space to study all this craziness, and while I like my house and neighborhood (I live with my parents) a calm quiet space it ain't!

A spring break trip is practically a requirement of college! :) I hear you on having quiet time. My parents talk nonstop and have to know everything I do. :headache:

I can't believe I'm the biggest loser this week! That's crazy! I guess all that southern food did me good...which doesn't make sense at all!

Congrats! You look great! :worship:

QOTD: My first thought was a place in Florida and the means/time to go there! Then I read Pamela's answer and realized that's what I should wish for, too: kids' college paid for!

What a relief that would be! :yay:

First time on the merged thread

Hi Rose! Good to see you!

50sjayne- Glad to hear you made it to the dr and are starting to feel better!

Rose- Great to see you again here! I see you all the time on FB!:)

Congrats to our top 10 this week! Hope to join you on that list again sometime soon.

Did a good job today with food and drink. I went over on my calories but with the exercise I have done today I have erased that! I'm still drinking my water.

I was able to do the 20 minute elliptical workout tonight pain free so I'm not sure what was going on yesterday morning. I also gave a massage today and did my ab and part of the arm workout. I can't do side planks very well so I skipped that.

My plan in the morning is to get up and do 40 minutes on the elliptical. I hope to get back from shopping by noon or 1 and then I will do another workout. I don't have to pick up Izzie until 3 and Ash until 5 so I will have the extra time. I will probably eat lunch out tomorrow. May be going shopping with a friend or by myself. I'll be happy either way. Visiting Trader Joe's, Costco, Target, and Staples. I may run to the Disney Store at the mall and if I'm one of the first 250 there I will get a free pair of Mickey ears so the mall and Target may be my first stop.

Izzie has been invited to a sleepover on Friday night so now I may go see Hunger Games again with Brian and Ash after Ash's dance class. I have to call the mom tomorrow night to confirm. This will be Izzie's first sleepover.

Saturday we need to clean out and organize the garage. I also have one client at 10 am. Sunday we are getting together with friends. I am glad to have my weekend all planned out.

I also need to find a dress to wear for Easter. Hopefully Target will have something decent.

Enough rambling!

DH and DS both have Trek mountain bikes. We bought both off of Craigslist. DH bike was $150 (new $550) and DS was $125 (new $400). They used them for a Scout 50 mile trip and both did well. The bikes are several years old now and holding up well.

:wave2:

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. I am very fortunate that my husband does the majority of the cooking. My responsibility is to plan, make sure I have a grocery list-- he will do the shopping-- and be sure it is thawed when needed. And then to come up with the alternate plan when I screw that up!:rotfl: I have some standard back ups I try to always have on hand. I need to do some long term meal planning and plan a big Costco trip after Spring Break.

I am NOT a morning person so my quiet time is in the evening after the kids go to bed. I do think though that the biggest adjustment for me with all of this is the loss of my hours of quiet time during the day. I haven't really even been watching TV in the evenings because it is too much stimulation after a day of constant stimulation.

Need to have some neighbors on notice that DD12 will be alone for a little bit in the mornings and after school and make an extra set of keys for them in case someone forgets theirs.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner about you giving WW a try! Good for you for trying something new!

When I incorporated some SB aspects into my eating last year, I was very careful to stay on my WW points. As you can see, the SB eating and WW eating are pretty different when it comes to CALORIES!

I think the problems with SB and Atkins start when folks are used to eating larger portions of higher calorie foods.... then if you have a carb splurge and throw yourself out of ketosis, the calories pack on the pounds.

I was very afraid of getting used to eating larger portions and losing my ability to properly estimate a WW portion of things, which is one reason I stuck with my WW points when I started eating lower carb.

Nuts are healthy and yummy, but the portions sizes are TINY. When I consider eating 4 points of nuts (one serving), I have to think about whether I would rather have a low fat cheese stick, an apple, a Vitamuffin, and two clementines instead.... because that is what else I could have for the SAME 4 points (using the old Points system, not new P+). Sometimes I DO want the nuts.... I want the salt and crunch. But if I'm trying to fill my hungry belly, obviously the second choice is better.

WW CAN WORK and DOES WORK. But it will definitely require a different mind set from SB or Atkins. And if you are afraid of eating too many carbs, as you have been used to a lower carb diet over the past months, you CAN do a lower carb version of WW. But it is a bit challenging. I rely a lot on low carb pita and wraps, berries, lowfat cheese, egg whites, salmon burgers, natural peanut butter, and stuff like that that fits BOTH diets.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you want to chat!

As a substitute, I don't always know on Sunday what the week ahead will look like. That said, I do have a few things that I try to ALWAYS do to prepare for the week.

I try to always have a menu plan in place. And most of my dinners rarely require more than 30 minutes of hands-on time, so even if I have to work that day, I'm still okay.

I plan my menus with alternating lighter and heavier (more and less points). And knowing what my dinner Points will be makes it easier for me to plan my breakfasts/lunches.

Exercise is tougher to fit in on work days, but I try to keep a pair of sneakers in the car so I can AT LEAST get in a lunchtime/break time walk, if nothing else. I definitely PREFER morning workouts, but I will hit the Y in the evening if the day has gone off track.
*********
Wonderful advice! I did think about PMing you when I was trying to make the decision but didnt get time. I am still going to be trying to stick with the SB thing. I just really do well with more protein and less carbs. I am eating the same things but less of them and in a more controlled manner. BUT I am also not sure if I am going to have enough weekly points left to finish the week! I am trying to budget them evenly because I do really need more than the 26 points I am given per day to keep going. Already seeing movement on the scale so that is a :woohoo: thing!

I have been making a batch of something on the weekend to take in during the week. This week it is the Creamy White Chicken Chili that I posted the recipe for a while back. And I cut up all my salad stuff and seal it in jars to last through the week (best diet tip I ever got!) Thinking it will be a Quinoa and black bean with turkey sausage thing for the week after spring break. It was yummy for dinner 2 weeks ago. Need to figure out how many points in quinoa first.

LTS Sorry to hear about the secretary but work til the end of the year is awesome! Whatcha gonna do with that hard earned cash? Trip to the World???
I WISH! I keep telling DD16 that every week I work is another book she can buy in college! I am going to pay a friend that does house cleaning to come in and help me. I HATE housework so if I am making money and not home I can justify having her do it for me. I am also going to need to buy new clothes. I just don't have enough pants that fit (that is a good thing!) so I need get a few pairs. Going to check out Le Goodwill first.

 So sorry to hear about your friend.

So I left the school early today and went over to the new school to meet them and go over a few things. They were all so friendly and welcoming it was wonderful. Even the principal came out to meet me and thank me for coming to help out. Took away some of the nervousness. It is always scary to walk into a new place and know nobody, but when I walked in the building the very first student I saw is a kid from our swim team. Really helps to see a familiar face even if just for a second. Need to see if I can find out how to do a few things they need done from my current location so I can take it on when I get there. They said the woman I am taking over for is doing well and has been told a minimum of 6 weeks recovery but they do think I will be there for the rest of the year. We only have 9 weeks left after this.

All fruits. Bananas--yum! I've practically turned into a monkey since Jan 1, but they are oh so filling and you can have as many as you want and they are FREE!

I thought of you at the grocery store today. I should take a photo-- I think have about 50 bananas on my table! I let them ripen ( I like them very ripe-no green) and then freeze them. I use one in my morning smoothie. I also love to take a frozen banana and blend it in the blender with a small amount of milk to make banana ice cream. I learned that from WW some years ago.

Here are some recipes I’ve found so far. They are all from Hungry Girl. I chose to use her recipes because the PointsPlus values are listed. There are a few recipes that only have the Points Value listed, but the info you need to calculate the PP+ is on the link. :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the grilled cheese recipes. I'd like to try 2 of them the first and the pumpkin. I have all the ingredients even!

:thumbsup2

OK do not, I repeat DO NOT eat the KFC pot pie!!!! It was really good, but damn 790 calories?!!? Good thing I wasn't hungry for dinner!! I used up all my calories for the day on that, I'm not happy. Darn kids and their projects!!!!!!!

But everything is done and ready to go for tomorrow. I will post pics later, I'm to tired to upload now.

Night!!!!

Those grilled cheese recipes do sound really good, especially the pumpkin one. I never really considered putting anything else in a grilled cheese besides cheese (and maybe some ham or turkey.) I'll definitely have to try those out!

So DM and I went shopping today to get me some new clothes and a new dress for a friend's wedding (same friend we had the shower for over the weekend.) Not only did I find a new dress (and a size smaller than the last dress I bought!) but I also found some really cute shoes to go with it! Pedicure may be in order for this weekend. ;) Now what to do with my hair?!

We did go to Waffle House for lunch today and while I did get hashbrowns, instead of having them fried, I had them steamed with a piece of cheese and mushrooms (still craving mushrooms like crazy) which was better than I thought it would be. Didn't even miss them being fried. :thumbsup2

Went to the gym today after not going for a couple of days... Boy did I feel it this time... Only got about 30 minutes in but I was able to do it on a incline and at about a 17 minute mile pace. I'll definitely have to try not waiting so long between workouts... :sad2: But on the bright side, I did 13 minutes on the elliptical without stopping once! :woohoo:
