Biggest Loser Alumni Holiday Edition: past, present and future participants welcome!

Thanks so much for telling me about that song, Lisa! I love to pretend I'm running down the beach towards Jack Sparrow when I hear it. He always has a big bottle of rum waiting, too. pirate:

Well.... for me it would have to be Will Turner waiting with a margarita! That would give me some speed!! :rotfl:

I would say trimming the tree together and just hanging out together are the must do traditions. :santa:

Very nice. It is so important to remember to RELAX and enjoy each other's company. I will say that my extended family is good about this. We really DO love being with each other (adults and kids) and we enjoy our day(s) together.

Definately still lights. I prefer color but white are okay, too.

Thanks for coaching today! :flower3: Holiday threads have a tendency to be pretty quiet.

Quiet, as I expected. But it is a bit more relaxing at least!

Buffy, hope your guy is feeling better soon, too. :flower3:

Just saw on FB that John the Biggest Loser from Season 12 will be running the marathon in Phoenix that I am doing in March when I visit my Mom. I'm only doing the 10K but the last several miles of the course are the same. He's not my favorite but I'm hoping that they will have some of the other contestants. :cool2:

Have a great day all!

Wow.... that is neat. I actually rather liked Jon. I didn't hold much hope for him in the beginning, but he showed GREAT determination all along the way. Maybe there will be a bunch of BL alum there??? Bring your autograph book and camera!

**********

Okay.... caught up! And my 8:45 enrichment class hasn't shown up yet. Not sure why. I couldn't find her enrichment games anyhow, so we were/are just going to listen to some music from The Nutcracker and read a book about it (both about the story and how the production is put on).

DH is gone until late Thursday, so this week's planned meals will be put in the freezer (tonight was gonna be my Red, White, and Green chicken chili that I started Sunday). Kids and I don't mind cold sandwiches, bagels, yogurt, and cereal, so I'll make my week easier.

And I am not working beyond today (gotta remember to tell the office). I have to host a pasta supper Thursday night for DD's swim team and then she has a meet on Friday. My parents arrive Saturday morning. I still need to do LOTS of cleaning, some grocery shopping and about an hour's worth of wrapping. I have two boxes for the post office (not Christmas gifts anyhow), checks for the bank, and a major dump run to do too! I will definitely stay busy this week, even without work!

Happy Hannukah to all!!

Well... I'm going to go queue up the Christmas movie for my 9:40 class and then I'll check out the scrapbooking board if my enrichment group still hasn't arrived.................P

Morning!

I'm coaching today and couldn't be more excited! :)

QOTD Tuesday, 12/20: What is one thing on your to-do list that must get done before the holiday(s)? How are you going to make sure that you do it?

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

My big thing that has to get done is wrapping presents. I do almost all of the wrapping, including my own gifts. :rolleyes1 I don't have much to do today other than wrapping, so I will be doing that for most of the day. I also plan to do some yoga (thanks P!) and job search.

I would love to be in Fantasyland just absorbing the magic. I love all of the rides/attractions there so the exact one doesn't matter.

I'll be back later for some replies.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning all! Buffy, your tree and decorations are beautiful and I'm very impressed with your DVD organizing! :worship:

Shawn, it's tough to deal with the food pushers for sure. It happens. Log it, don't worry about and move on. :goodvibes

Dh asked me the other day if we should make one for ds1's gf. They haven't gotten engaged yet so we decided not yet.

Good idea to wait! :thumbsup2 Our nephew's long time girlfriend made it on my MIL's Christmas card this year -- talke about pressure! :rotfl:

One work day done 3 to go :hippie: I made a list of things that I really had to get done today, like sending Christmas cards and cleaning our master bathroom. I didn't really want to, but I accomplished that after work as well as getting a load of laundry started. I have dinner cooking now. I'm not sure why I have energy tonight, but I'm thankful.

Glad your day ended on a high note! :goodvibes

Rose, too bad you had to do the cookie thing -- you deserve an extra GF treat at WDW this week for going above and beyond the call of duty! :santa:

Gretchen, I love how dual enrollment let's good students like you have a head start on college! :teeth:

The thought of eating that makes me gag and I can barely get the words out to order it.

Another trouper in the holiday celebration! :santa:

:welcome: EDuke98080!

Hi all! I am a BL alum (maintaining for 18 months now) dropping in for the holiday chatter and support of all the lovely folks here. :wave2:

Nicole! So nice to see you! I see your posts on the events side of the WISH boards sometimes. Think Marathon Week-end 2013 -- there are several of us BL folks shooting for races that week-end. :goodvibes

Christina, enjoy your baking! :thumbsup2

a little PSA for everyone: there's a thread on the main board called "what's the best thing you've eaten at disney"

yeah, don't go there. i'm drooling.

but....it's a way to get the food fix without the calories, right??

::yes:: Food porn is calorie free!

I'm in for Music again today and I refuse to follow her plans. I've worked her for 8 years and her sub plans have NEVER changed. They are painfully dull. So I will start class with her traditional songs (patriotic mix), let them do a dance song or two, and then we will watch a Disney Christmas video for the remaining 30 minutes. I don't think I'll get any complaints from the kids. :thumbsup2

Sorry for the tough eating day yesterday. It's nice that you will let the kids have a much more enjoyable day than otherwise planned. :santa:

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

Thanks, CC, for coaching TODAY! :flower3: (Not this week like I posted earlier :)). And hang in there on the gluten thing.

I have a holiday happy hour that we are hosting tonight for a few neighbors, tomorrow I will finish my cards, then Thursday shop for the Christmas dinner things, Friday do my long run. It's not too much and by spreading it out over a few days it is manageable. I think I can relax and take it easy and enjoy myself after that. :santa:

Have a great day all!

HI all,

Just wanted to post so I could join this thread! I have been browsing when I've had a few minutes but no time to post.

At work today until 2 and then running around for the next few hours and then Mom wants me to take her out in our area shopping tonight.

Yesterday we went shopping from 9-2 and didn't even make it to the mall. Tomorrow we will spend all day at the mall. We never even stopped to eat. I had a salad at around 2:30! at least we will be where there are restaurants so I can eat. I have to get my parents a few more things for Christmas. My shopping yesterday was a complete bust as stuff was out of stock. Hoping tomorrow will be slightly better. Friday I have a mammogram and then we are going shopping again.

I started baking last night. I made a batch of chocolate peppermint cookies. I didn't touch them.

Hanging steady at 154.4. I plan on joining in again after the holidays. I would like to be at 140 by my cruise in June. Life just needs to settle down and I need to start working out again. I can imagine that if I was working out I might be close to that. Maybe this is just a good weight for me. I was about 10 pounds lighter this time last year so I want to get that weight off again and keep it off. Hoping that the XBox Kinect will help me with that!

Have a great day everyone!

Love you all and miss you!

Merry Christmas!

QOTD Tuesday, 12/20: What is one thing on your to-do list that must get done before the holiday(s)? How are you going to make sure that you do it?

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

I have to finish Mom's photo album and make my brother some CDs. Not too difficult and I really have nothing else to be doing for the time being!

I've really been wanting to watch Festival of the Lion King lately! In fact, I think that's the first thing I'm going to do when I get my company ID. :goodvibes But for now, I'll just Youtube it...after I run to Target to pick some stuff up and the library because I have some books on hold.

Pamela I have 4 DVD binders where you put the liner notes in the front and the DVD in the back. Let me know if you want them before I take them to goodwill.
They have been through the ringer(tortured by 4 kids) but still function. I'll snap a pic later, I'm headed to the Post office now.

We recycled the boxes. Poor recycling guy hated us!!! LOL

QOTD Tuesday, 12/20: What is one thing on your to-do list that must get done before the holiday(s)? How are you going to make sure that you do it?

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

Must do is cookies before Friday. I want to do a box for the crossing guard and teachers. Today I hit the post office which is the last must do for the holiday.
I've staged my wrapping table this morning so I'm all set to start that when I get back from the PO.

Fluff - Well today is the 20th which means we would have arrived at WDW The 18th. So today would probably be a MK day because it's one of the slower days there.
We are probably in line at BTMR with fast passes of course, then we will head to Cosmic Rays for lunch.

gretchen, i love that attraction. it might be my favorite actually. i cry every time. a few trips ago i left it practically sobbing - you know that part at the end where the dancers take the little kids and let them play instruments and march around while they sing that last big number? well one dancer took a little girl who was in a mechanized wheelchair - i'd guess she has cerebral palsy or something like that - and wheeled her around in the circle. the little girl had a smile on her face so big that i will never forget it. it made me fall in love with disney all over again

************************

QOTD #1: i still have a couple little things to pick up for my cousins for christmas. it's just gift cards but i need to go to a few places to get them. thing is, i have a newborn in the house so i'm getting off easy - i don't think anyone expects me to have it all together this christmas! (and i certainly don't!)

QOTD #2: omg i definitely would like to be riding living with the land right now. yep, the land. i know it's not all that exciting but sitting in that boat always makes me feel like, "ah, i'm at disney." oh and not to mention the last time we were on that ride this past september we made it to almost the end of the ride and my son thomas barfed ALL OVER ME. i mean barf was everywhere! we were given vouchers for a free outfit from any of the stores. i dripped all the way to mousegears in order to find something that would fit me - i was 30 weeks pregnant at the time! i'd like to re-do the land ride sans barf right about now ;)

Thanks Rose! :) I’ve heard about the biopsy. I thought I was going to have one, but I think there is some insurance mumbo-jumbo to deal with first. I actually have already had stool tests, but for a virus. I haven’t heard the results yet. I think I’ll call about those and the lab work you mentioned today. That is the next thing on my agenda.

Speaking of agenda, I discovered that using Word to make a to-do list is genius! :cool1: I’m always hoping on my laptop for this, that, or the other thing, so I leave the document open throughout the day and am amazed at how much more is getting done since I started this approach. :thumbsup2

I know what you mean about feeling like a hypochondriac. I even had a professor in undergrad call me one. I was so sick with vertigo and nausea. I was starting to worry about my hearing then too. College food didn’t help either. Luckily, the college health, counseling, and nutritional counseling office didn’t let my professors get away with anything. The one thing these years of being sick has taught me is that you have to advocate for yourself. :)

Speaking of gluten, I have a little vent.

I work for a non-profit and we take baked goodies to donors at this time of the year and I have spent time the last couple of days I worked (and will be doing it tomorrow too) loading up containers with stuff I have to smell but couldn't eat even if I wanted to....It's kind of torturous and makes me a little sick smelling all the sugar. I will be glad when all the Christmas cookies, etc are out of the office!

Before I started eating wheat, I touched some and within a minute was itchy and could see evidence of a rash. Is it safe for you to be doing this?

The iPod touches do indeed do pretty much everything except make calls! I have a purple nano from the "generation" before the new touch screen ones, and I love it. It does everything I want it to, so it's fine with me.

I finished up very early. Finals continue through tomorrow, and all of my housemates are still at school. Last night when my friends came over for the good-bye dinner, one of them was like, "Wait, so you basically finished in two and a half years?" Well, yes I did. I came in with 29 AP credits, I took 6 credits this past summer, I took 18 credits last fall, the internship counts for another 12 credits, and my major is only 34 credits. :thumbsup2

Two-and-a-half years! :worship: Congrats! I did 4 years and a BA and a BS plus complete the Honor’s Program, so 150 credits, with 18 being honors level. I took some summer classes as well and one semester I took 21 credits. It was definitely worth it. Congrats! :cool1:

I’m not sure if my parents are actually going to get me a Nano for Christmas, but I really do want one. The mp3 player I had was terrible. I couldn’t download any music to it and it never held a charge. I think it lasted 2 trips to the gym.

Do you do the traditional Seven Fishes of Christmas Eve? I do that, but over the years the menu has changed to suit the different tastes and likes/dislikes of my family. (Including myself - I don't eat any seafood).

My mother would always make a (very fishy ) seafood salad. After she passed away, I took over Christmas Eve dinner but can't bring myself to make the seafood salad. Luckily, I live in an Italian-heavy area and have many specialty food shops that make a good seafood salad (or so I've been told by those who eat it!). Each year when I order it, I have to ask them to go heavy on the octopus and add extra suction cups. The thought of eating that makes me gag and I can barely get the words out to order it.

- Laura

Hi Laura! We only have one type of fish. What we do is kind of complicated, but delicious. We buy packaged cleaned squid-whole tubes and tentacles. My father fries up the tentacles and then chops them into really small pieces. They go into a stuffing mixture of lots of bread crumbs, garlic, eggs, and parmesan cheese, plus some other ingredients. We stuff each tube with the mixture and then hand sew them shut with thread. My dad then fries them until they are almost completely cooked. My grandmother finishes cooking them in a special sauce. We serve it with pasta. My brother-in-law started helping us 2 years ago so now there are 4 of us stuffing and sewing. It makes it much more manageable. My grandmother used to do it herself, then we started helping her, but now we do it at our and then travel with a bowl of stuffed squid in our trunk. :rotfl2:

I am sorry you have to go through this. :grouphug:

My blood test was always negative too but my genetic testing was positive. I was ooogling over some Christmas cookies yesterday too! It is a hard time of year for avoiding gluten!

Thanks! :) I am definitely going to look into why I am not having a biopsy. My parents have already decided that they are going to make me my own stuffed squid next year, but I have no idea what else I will be eating. There are cookies everywhere on Christmas Eve. :headache:

Hi princessbride6205! Always good to hear from you! Congrats on maintaining! :worship:

Hi Kristina! Enjoy the movies! :)

Oh, dear. Also, this made me remember that there is a thread on the disAbilities board about gluten-free and other allergies in WDW. There are a lot of unknowns so it is hard to follow, but the basic concept is that changes are in place and people are not happy about them. :sad2:

. Put me down as another one who is so sorry to see you have to go through this, especially right at holiday time. But at least when it is over you will have (hopefully) an "official" diagnosis and can move on with more significant dietary changes and such. You are a brave girl for enduring all of this, knowing how miserable it is making you.

Yoga sounds like a GREAT idea right now!!

Thanks for being there to help CC with this. I'm sure she appreciates having your input.

Thanks P! Yoga is on my plan for after lunch. My mom said she would help wrap gifts tonight, so I will wait for her. It will be nice to not have to wrap my own gifts. :cool2:

I can’t thank Rose enough! Her and EDuke98080 have been so helpful.:)

Okay.... caught up! And my 8:45 enrichment class hasn't shown up yet. Not sure why. I couldn't find her enrichment games anyhow, so we were/are just going to listen to some music from The Nutcracker and read a book about it (both about the story and how the production is put on).

QOTD Tuesday, 12/20: What is one thing on your to-do list that must get done before the holiday(s)? How are you going to make sure that you do it?

Absolutely MUST wrap the remaining gifts and grocery shop ( I know, I know....that is TWO things....oh well). Wrapping is on my list for Wed and Friday (in case I don't finish it all tomorrow).... shopping is on the list for tomorrow as well. It can't wait any longer, as I need to buy supplies for the swim team pasta supper I am hosting on Thursday.... so I'll buy everything at once. I already told them here at school that I absolutely CANNOT work the next two days.

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

Soarin'! Love it so much!

Second choice would be just sitting on Main Street, looking at the Castle, just taking in the sounds, sights, and smells of Disney at Christmas.

Sorry for the tough eating day yesterday. It's nice that you will let the kids have a much more enjoyable day than otherwise planned. :santa:

The two classes I've had so far have voted for the "Rudolph and Friends" sing-along rather than the Disney Christmas sing-along.... I may need to out-vote the next class if I want to get a Disney fix into my day!!:rotfl:

Just so you won't think I am neglecting their musical education, we are starting the class with a selection of music from the Nutcracker and reading the book.

Love, love, love that show! Reminds me SO MUCH of our first family trip to WDW and the surprise of the birdlady that the kids loved so much.

Two classes down, enrichment group was a no-show. Now off to recess duty and then my lunchtime (green salad with hummus and an apple). Then a 1st grad and a 2nd grade class and then I'm done for the day.... and done working for 2011!! That's a fun thought!!

I have to run to the grocery store and pharmacy tonight, do a bit of baking and fill out a mortgage app and I want to clean the house. It sounds like a lot, but really shouldn't be that bad. We have the refinance appt on Friday and she asked me to do the online app today. After today I should just have housework to do. I'm really in good shape this year :thumbsup2

I would love to just be at WDW or DL for that matter, just soaking up the atmosphere. Just chillin.

You and I at almost the same weight with the same goal :lmao: They are looking into starting a weight watcher's program here at work. If they do that would be a huge time saver and motivator for me for 2012. Don't get me wrong, I will be at 140 or lower before our Hawaii trip at the end of July, by every little thing helps.

QOTD for 12/19/11:

We all have great family traditions for holiday time, be it Hannukkah, Kwaanza, or Christmas. But imagine life got REALLY crazy busy and you had to start dropping things from your list. What is the ONE tradition that you could not possibly foresee giving up? Is is making special cookies together as a family? Is it a relaxing cocktail party with friends? Trimming the tree with your kids??

I never made it on the Dis yesterday. I was way too busy making cookies. One tradition I could never get rid of is my family's Christmas Eve dinner. We've been having the same dinner since before I was born. My sister & I have taken over for my grandma. We have no meat. We start with bean soup and a wafer. Then we have fish, pirogies, mashed potatoes, corn, and salad. Dessert is just cookies. Then after midnight, we have ham and kielbasa. Yummy!

Anyhow, I have thought of a bonus QOTD! For those who celebrate Christmas....

White or colored lights??? Flashing or still???

For those who celebrate Hannukah.....

Real candles or electric??

............P

Our tree is white and red. And, no flashing! I am going to try to get some new lights this year on sale after Christmas. DH claims LED flashing lights give him headaches, so I think I'll try LED no flashing next year. And, maybe all white.

Morning!

QOTD Tuesday, 12/20: What is one thing on your to-do list that must get done before the holiday(s)? How are you going to make sure that you do it?

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

I have to wrap presents and return some stuff. I over bought this year and want to return before the madness next week. I haven't wrapped one thing! DH usually wraps and we are going to start tonight. I really, really don't want to be wrapping on Christmas Eve!

I wish I was on Soarin' right now. Please? Pretty please? And then I would follow up with a trip to a bakery in France or Norway! Yummy!

I have to run, but I hope to be on later to catch up!

Jill

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

Oops! Forgot to answer the second QOTD. I choose Soarin' then all three versions of Spaceship Earth followed by Holiday Wishes. Thanks to d-cot.com I actually have listened to all of these this morning. :smickey:

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

I have to make sure the basement is ready for my Dad's visit. When we don't have company, it's a combination gym/family room. When we have guests we turn the futon (With a Serta mattress, it's comfy!), into a full-sized bed, clean up the kitchen so it's spotless, clean the bathroom, and make sure the kitty bathroom area is presentable. I also have to dust all dh's old trophies on the mantel. I am the only one who even considers dusting :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Right now I would love to be on Star Tours. I have not been able to ride it since the upgrade, and I'm really looking forward to that in a couple months :yoda:

I still need to go to the mall and finish shopping. I think it will take us about an hour tops. AS soon dh gets home we are going to talk and then take care of what we have to do.

I wish I was Soaring right now

We have a lot of Soarin' fans here. I love the music, but am afraid of heights and the 3-D effects give me the heebee geebies.

I will be back later for more replies. I need to charge my laptop. I wanted to let you know that I posted the last 2 HH results on the Fall 2011 thread.

My blood test was always negative too but my genetic testing was positive. I was ooogling over some Christmas cookies yesterday too! It is a hard time of year for avoiding gluten!
My DS is going to eventually have the genetic test done, but right now he has no obvious symptoms and just doesn't want to know. I can't say that I blame him.

How RUDE that you have to do this! Can't someone else handle all of the baked stuff??? That just seems like they are asking too much!
Thanks for saying this. I thought maybe I was over reacting by feeling kind of annoyed that I had to do it. And to be honest after doing it I didn't feel too great, but it went away after a while. I think it was from breathing in all that sugar!:thumbsup2

Before I started eating wheat, I touched some and within a minute was itchy and could see evidence of a rash. Is it safe for you to be doing this?
You know, I hadn't thought about having a reaction from touching it...
FWIW, I have heard of folks having negative biopsies too. Not to be a downer. Here's the thing, my doctor said that having a positive response from the food challenge is more than enough reason to stop. But if you are interested, the lab I used is Enterolab. There is some controversy around their testing, but I feel pretty confident in my results. I know I have had people think I'm a hypochondriac, over anxious, etc. But I am telling you that after 10 months of being off gluten, I feel much, much better. I still get anxious--who doesn't? And this weekend I had a mini meltdown--but it lasted like two minutes and I moved on. I am so much calmer and feel so much better. Hang in there.

Morning!

I'm coaching today and couldn't be more excited! :)

QOTD Tuesday, 12/20: What is one thing on your to-do list that must get done before the holiday(s)? How are you going to make sure that you do it?

I have given up on finishing everything this year but I have to finish wrapping. I am going to try and do some every night this week so it will get done by Friday.

Fluff QOTD: What ride/attraction do you WISH you were on/at/doing right now?

I wish I was on Soaring, it is my absolute favorite ride.

QOTD Have to get done: Haircuts and Alan needs to get me another gift (doing this all tomorrow)

Fluff QOTD:
I'd love to be just walking around MK right now

I'll post more tomorrow. I'm off to bed because I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

Must do is cookies before Friday. I want to do a box for the crossing guard and teachers. Today I hit the post office which is the last must do for the holiday.

So nice of you to think of your crossing guard! :thumbsup2

Love your thinking! It’s so wonderful to hear that you are being realistic! I hope I remember you when I have a newborn. :)

Hi P! Sounds like you had a good day subbing! :cool1:

Deb: Good luck with your refinancing! :goodvibes

I have to wrap presents and return some stuff. I over bought this year and want to return before the madness next week. I haven't wrapped one thing! DH usually wraps and we are going to start tonight. I really, really don't want to be wrapping on Christmas Eve!

I’ve being working on the stocking stuffers, but otherwise my mom and I just started today. :goodvibes

Oops! Forgot to answer the second QOTD. I choose Soarin' then all three versions of Spaceship Earth followed by Holiday Wishes. Thanks to d-cot.com I actually have listened to all of these this morning. :smickey:

I have to check out that website! :cool1:

I have to make sure the basement is ready for my Dad's visit. When we don't have company, it's a combination gym/family room. When we have guests we turn the futon (With a Serta mattress, it's comfy!), into a full-sized bed, clean up the kitchen so it's spotless, clean the bathroom, and make sure the kitty bathroom area is presentable. I also have to dust all dh's old trophies on the mantel. I am the only one who even considers dusting :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

How nice that you can use the space for so many different things! :)

I still need to go to the mall and finish shopping. I think it will take us about an hour tops. AS soon dh gets home we are going to talk and then take care of what we have to do.

Not jealous at all that your DH helps with shopping! I WISH my father would help. :rolleyes1

Thanks Rose! I didn’t realize you could have a negative biopsy. I called the doctor today, but no one has called me back yet. I have really noticed how many more physical symptoms of depression I’ve been having since eating gluten. I will not miss gluten. ;)
