Biggest Loser Alumni Holiday Edition: past, present and future participants welcome!

My boys have short hair. DH and I both agree that it is a battle worth fighting, even though DH had a mullet in High School. Since the boys have been aware of our "rule" since birth they don't fight us on it. Long Hair on boys is not the norm around here. Many have the shaggy look with bangs in their faces, but It seems to be a fad over the last couple of years :confused3
I think everybody has their things that they are ok with or not ok with Deb.:goodvibes DS would not have fit in at some of the schools around here--but fit in perfectly at the schools he chose.

You have great kids and a great family, and I'm sure whatever you are choosing works best for your family.:goodvibes

Your trip sounds fabulous! I am so glad you were able to get your reservation! I am really impressed that you were able to save/bank your points! :goodvibes

Good morning all!

Welcome to the final day of our BL Holiday Alumni thread! :santa:

I am your coach today so I am going to post a quick QOTD.

How are you going to ring in the New Year? Big party, quiet night at home, traditional meal? Or all of the above?

Fluff Disney QOTD: Have you ever been to WDW or DL during New Year's Eve? What did you do? Did you like it? Or if you haven't been what would be your perfect Disney New Year's celebration?

Sorry but I have to do my long run this morning because my community center is closed this week-end so I'll be back later with replies. :goodvibes

Quiet night at home with our young ds's, who are very excited to stay up till midnight:goodvibes We'll probably get some frozen hors d'oeuvres and watch Dick Clark (or Ryan Seacrest, or whoever it is nowadays) with them and play some board games. If I'm lucky, they'll do a round or two of Dance Central 2 with me:laughing:

Fluff Disney QOTD: Have you ever been to WDW or DL during New Year's Eve? What did you do? Did you like it? Or if you haven't been what would be your perfect Disney New Year's celebration?

Never been to WDW during the holidays. If there are fireworks, that would be a great way to ring in the new year. Especially if the temp were well over the mid-30's predicted for NYC tomorrow night!:scared1:

30 Day Shredding now...!

Todays QOTD:

What do you plan to do to start off 2012 on a healthy note?

Fluff QOTD: If you could only go to one disney park on your next trip which one would you choose and why?

I plan to start planning all my meals again and getting to the gym more. I also took a break from My Fitness Pal (how can I keep track of all those cookies? :lmao:), so I plan to start that on Sunday. I also am going to try to get mentally healthy by spring cleaning this weekend. I already started with my closet and the kids video games. I have quite a nice pile going for a garage sale this summer! I need order in my life. Choas throws off everything.

One park? Epcot. It's got everything we need for kids and adults. And some good eating, too!

I am going to be ringing in the New Year alone (somewhat by choice). DH works a 12 hour shift that night. My inlaws want the boys to spend the night at their house, so I am alone. I have been invited to parties, but would rather have a nice quiet night alone, seeing as though I don't think I've had one in years lol. I'm planning on cleaning and putting away all the Christmas decorations, grocery shopping for the week, and then spending the night watching movies and reading. I am so looking forward to it!

I have never been during NYE and never plan to. I just read how 3 parks closed to capacity for awhile yesterday, plus IoA and Legoland? That's too much for me. But, let's say I live in a dream world where DH and I were at the parks and they weren't crowded at all :rotfl: I would probably want to be at MK because it seems the most special to me. Or, we would be enjoying a fancy dinner somewhere...I'm not sure where because we've never been to any signature restaurants, but I'm sure I would enjoy it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No real plan for today. I'd like to take the kids to a movie and I have to go get a few items for a salsa I am making for New Year's Day. I also have to go to Verizon (:eek:) to pay our wireless bill since we have rebates from our new phones and have no idea how to use them. Then, I plan to clean before our crazy schedule goes back to normal on Tuesday.
I am Team Donald and am so excited to get started. I *may* have gained 1.6 pounds over the last 2 weeks, so I am ready! And who knew Christmas cookies had any calories?!?!:rotfl2: I want to lose 10 pounds this challenge and I know it is going to be very hard. I'd only like to lose 15-20 total, so this 10 will be a huge challenge. Good luck to everyone and see my fellow teammates on the new thread!!
Jill
We will be having a quiet night at home. we were invited to a NYE party but it would have meant dressing up like Star Trek characters. I didn't want to have to look for costumes the week before Christmas so we declined the invite. That is fine with me.
I have never been to DW for NY and don't think I want to. The crowds would really bum me out.
We are going to run tomorrow and then have a nice family dinner to celebrate the end of 2011.:cool1::cool1::cool1: I am very happy to see a New Year! We might go see a movie, not sure. Oh, and UK and U of L play there big BB game tomorrow--so we will have to plan our run around that!
We have been to WDW on New Year's Eve--I think it was 5 years ago. Anyhow, we went to MK and there were showers during the day, so it wasn't bad during the day, but got very crowded at night. We found a place to park ourselves around 8:00 and then just people watched and enjoyed the DJ. It really was lots of fun! Around 3:00pm DS dropped our camera--so we ended up paying a fortune to buy a camera--but we didn't know if we would ever do NYE again at MK, so we wanted pictures! I would definitely do it again, with the plan of finding a spot early to just hang out and wait for the fireworks. The crowds aren't bad if you are not trying to move around.:goodvibes
We are having a quiet night at home. Not sure if DS15 has plans yet but the rest of us will be at home.
We were at WDW for New Year's Eve about 10 years ago, but we spent that day at Seaworld. We had dinner at 1900 Park Fare. We weren't going to be at the parks at midnight anyway with 2 young kids so it worked out well for us.
Hi Everyone!
Today has been a good day. I won't have my test results for a week or so, but I can go GF now!
A few quick replies and then I'm off to check on the threads for the new challenge.
I plan on following through on my exercise plans. No coffee for me until I have been on the Treadmill. I like the rewards idea's too. I will have to come up with a few low cost ones - new nail polish or eye shadow. Then a big one for say 25 pounds - new bead for my bracelet.
I like how you are taking about rewards. It is giving me ideas for Healthy Habits. :cool1:
We also plan to renew our vows,
That’s so exciting! :)
Thanks for coaching Lindsay!
Hi Pamela!
Gretchen: :woohoo: for the good news about mom!
We really don’t celebrate NYE. Sometimes we have shrimp, but we had that on Christmas Eve, so I’m kind of shrimped out. Usually, I fall asleep sometime between 8 and 9 PM. :sad2:
We’ve never done Disney on NY, but it sounds like fun. No place would have a better fireworks display!
I plan to start planning all my meals again and getting to the gym more. I also took a break from My Fitness Pal (how can I keep track of all those cookies? :lmao:), so I plan to start that on Sunday. More ideas for HH! Thank you! :cool1:
Good point. I’d be willing to watch the MK fireworks from the Poly beach though. Or maybe dinner at Cali Grill. :thumbsup2
Hope 2012 is a great year for you Rose!
We weren't going to be at the parks at midnight anyway with 2 young kids so it worked out well for us.
I did forget about the part where you have to be up at midnight. Yep, Poly beach and straight to bed for me. :rolleyes1
Wow, I can't believe it's the last day of our in-between thread. That means that pretty soon, I have to start working hard and quit slacking off:rotfl2:
We will spend a quiet evening at home for New Year's; this is typically what we do and we just don't like to be out and driving on that night. Never been to the parks during the Holidays.
Rose, thanks so much for posting the pictures and sharing your experience with DS. I guess we don't have anything too extreme going on with our DS just yet - no long hair, no baggy pants, no clothes with holes, no piercings or tattos. I just find it frustruating that he wears the same pair of jeans and same Tshirt over and over. And wants new clothes but does not know what he wants. This is the first year I've seen DS so lacking in confidence and I hate it for him. I am trying to remain calm and hope he outgrows this stage. Maybe I should lighten up:laughing: I would love it if DS was preppy. I show him the Vineyard Vines stuff all the time but he says NO WAY!
BTW, YOU look fantastic !!!
Lindsay, no smart phone here:sad2: DS & DH have them but not me yet. Maybe one day..... I think I would love the tracking apps.
CC, Java Blue is an "oldie but a goodie":thumbsup2
Gretchen, if you have any more auto problems, the auto stores like Advance Auto and others will usually help you with things like this and there is no charge. IE, you buy the fluid in their store, they go out to the parking lot and put it in your car for you:thumbsup2 I use them all the time when DH is out of town. Once I asked them to diagnose a problem for me, they did and made an easy fix for no charge. Another time they fixed my radio for no charge:thumbsup2
Drove 4 hours roundtrip yesterday and picked up DH. His Dad was looking very good, showered, dressed and sitting up. His doctors told him he is a very healthy 70 year old:thumbsup2 DH got the heck out of there ASAP:laughing: His Mom is the type person who will wake you up to ask you if you are taking a nap:rotfl: Hopefully his Dad will be able to tune her out.
We had my Dad's 78th bday party last night with pizza. DH & I provided the pizza. This is snarky but I was a little put out that people did not eat what they had ordered. The meatlovers people were eating my thin crust pepperoni, grrrrr
Today was our segway tour - it was so much freaking fun:yay::yay::yay:
We all 3 enjoyed it very much. Even though it only lasted an hour, DH and I were worn out later. It did not seem to affect DS much:laughing:
Not sure what we are doing for dinner tonight, need to get groceries and get back to some normal routine around here. Maybe tomorrow:laughing:
Have a great evening all:grouphug:
Oh, I forgot to mention and I just add it here for you all to get a chuckle---
DH, DS and even DFIL all have that kind of very coarse hair that is like a BRILLO PAD:rotfl2: Long hair would never even be an option for any of them - I think it would just continue to grow upwards towards the ceiling if they ever grew it out long:lmao: Poor DS could never have that popular Justin Beiber combed forward look either:upsidedow
Sorry it's taken me all day to get back here for replies. :goodvibes
Shawn, I like the pound by pound idea! :thumbsup2
And the 5:30 am at work thing is so I stop doinking awake at 2 am thinking about all the things that need to be done. :rolleyes1 Luckily I have everything done that needs to be done this year! :woohoo: I do like going to the gym at 5 am though -- it's pretty darn nice to walk out at 6 am and be done. ::yes::
Rose, I think Tom was a very handsome young man at all ages and hair lengths. And what really stands out in my mind is how happy you look in all your pictures now. You just glow! :flower3:
Janis, you are a trouper for exercising without caffeine! :hippie
Deb, one our neighbors just got a minister's license online and married his nephew. Maybe one of your family members could help you with your vow renewal as thanks for the trip. I'm sure it will be a wonderful, memorable trip no matter what.
Lindsay, thanks for coaching yesterday! :flower3:
Pamela, have a great time with your folks! :goodvibes
Gretchen, I'm glad things are better at your house. :flower3: I wonder if the security guard was trying to impress your Grandma? Or hope you get her genes so you can look so good at 85!
Dona, safe travels your your DS and pixiedust: for you and peace of mind. :hug:
Fluff Disney QOTD: Have you ever been to WDW or DL during New Year's Eve? What did you do? Did you like it? Or if you haven't been what would be your perfect Disney New Year's celebration?
I have a bad habit of not answering my own QOTD! :rotfl:
We are one of those families that likes to stay home on New Year's Eve, too. Heck, I don't even stay up until midnight anymore I'm such an old fogey. ;)
The only time I ever did New Year's Eve at Disney was when I was working at Disneyland. It was fun but I think if I was going to do it now, I would go have dinner at Napa Rose or California Grill and watch the fireworks from afar.
Michele, how is the shredding going?
Some people pay a lot of money to have hair like that! ;)
I had a great run this morning. I really like being done early. It will be interesting to see how many folks there are at the community center at 5 am next week. It may be a little :crowded:
Have a great evening all!
I have been gone pretty much all day so I have missed out on checking in here. Looks like we are beginning to wind down here and get ready to go with our BL Challenge! I am so ready for it.
Today I took DD and one of her friends to the MoA. Yes, we were just there the other day but they wanted to go shopping together today so I went back. After walking around for almost 4 hours...they finally declared that they were done and we could go home. I will say that was my exercise for the day! :rotfl:
Tomorrow DH and I have to go pick up our race packets for the Polar Dash on January 1st. I am excited because while I was out shopping with the girls today I found a great running hoodie at Nike - BRIGHT YELLOW :scared1:! It actually is really cute. For all of you who are new to my running...you will soon learn for me running good is all about looking good! :rotfl2: I plan on wearing the new hoodie on Sunday and hope to also figure out how to add some other bright colors to the outfit.
Our plans for New Year's Eve will be a quiet evening at home. I am trying to figure out a nice supper for the family. DD has invited a friend over but I think we will just play a game or have a kind of quiet evening.
Time to run for now! Hope to check in later and read the posts a bit closer but also get on the Team Donald thread as well! :goodvibes
Later - Jen
I'm so sorry that you were not able to do the Tink this time around. It would have been fun to see you again! :tink: Keep that WDW Marathon Week-end date in mind. :cool2:
Hi all,
Just disassembled the tree and put it in the attic with the ornaments. I will take the rest of the stuff down over the next month. I love my village so I'm in no rush to take that down.
Got to see an old friend today for a few minutes. Mom is still not feeling great so we came back home and she slept. Made spaghetti for supper. I put eggplant in with my sauce and the rest of the family had leftover meat loaf in theirs.
QOTD: We are going where we go every year. We go to our best man's house and order Chinese food and the kids play and we catch up on everything since we don't get together very often. Brian and his friend have a Mai Tai while they wait for the food to be ready.
My new routines and diet will start next week and even more so after my parents leave. Mom still isn't feeling great and my dad has been having major issues with his legs the last 2 days.
Just put on Little Fockers to watch together so we will chat again soon!
Evening friends! Still here at mom's. Reading and keeping up with the chatter, but afraid of Poof Fairy, so no replies.
Anyhow....trying to help a friend plan a Disney trip and there seems to be a problem with the Disney call center.....it keeps switching to Spanish for the menu and even when we got a live operator they only spoke Spanish! Will try again tomorrow.
Off to play games with the kids......P
The Disney call center is always a problem! I am so happy that my best friend is finally a Disney certified TA and I no longer have to deal with that!
Lisa - Just finished painting my nails a bright yellow to match my new hoodie! I might have to wear gloves to start with but I always love when my nails match my outfit! :rotfl: I will be sure to take and post photos!
Right now my plan is to have a Harry Potter marathon. I will also keep checking in on Facebook to see what this new "exciting" Disney World announcement is for 2012.
Nope, I've never been and don't know if I would want to. I don't really like big parties or crowds, just small gatherings with friends.
Did not even think of something like this! We already had the fluid at home, and I'm glad that I know how to do it now. A few weeks ago the Jeep I rented from school had a light on the dashboard that was indicating the tires were low on air. I had no idea (and still don't) how to measure the pressure and Mom didn't have time to go to the gas station with me, so she told me to just ask one of the guys there how to do it and play dumb. :rotfl: I refused to do that, and I made it back to school without the tires exploding. :thumbsup2
Gretchen, I'm glad things are better at your house. :flower3: I wonder if the security guard was trying to impress your Grandma? Or hope you get her genes so you can look so good at 85!
He probably was trying to impress Grandma-she gets that a lot! And when I was younger people always thought I was older than I am (when I was 16 I got asked out by a creepy old guy who thought I was 25 :scared1:), and only recently have people begun to tell me that I look younger than I am, so this kind of threw me off a little. :laughing:
****************
Mom should be able to come home tomorrow. The psychologist called her "support system" people today (including me) and determined that they were reliable enough to let her come home. She also has a safety plan or something written down. The psychiatrist that is supposed to discharge her tomorrow is actually my psychiatrist.
Tomorrow will be busy even if Mom doesn't come home. I have to do some laundry and straighten up the house. I've gotten a little lazy with the dishes. :rolleyes1 Then I have to go run some errands: Target, because my KMart belt broke two nights ago (:headache:), gas station, the bank (to cash in my $36 in rolled coins :banana:) and the post office. Mom didn't know she had to print out return labels for the two textbooks she rented and just sent them back to the addresses listed on the labels on the original boxes. This is causing all sorts of problems and she's being charged for both the books, so I have to go see if the post office has any tracking information. :sad2:
Why no, I didn't drop off the face of the earth! Well kind of
I think its been since before thanksgiving that I posted, is everyone still here or did we move to a new thread? I had to stop posting, mostly for my own sanity. School kind of got into high gear at the end of the semester and I had to focus on that.
I hope everyone is doing well! I've been slacking on the diet front, not tracking calories, but still lost 4 lbs since thanksgiving, which im proud of. Despite not tracking calories, I still have been trying to keep up with my healthy eating habits and i've done pretty well. I've even been able to sneak in a few treats here and there. It feels good, and I've been feeling a lot better about myself lately. I need to get back on the wagon though. I have 15 lbs to go before I hit my goal and I know I can do it!
Excersice has been really depressing. I think I mentioned my hip injury before i dissapeared but its much worse. I've been seeing an orthapedic doctor and he says its bursitas and also a problem with my IT band. not the news i wanted. I'm under STRICT orders not to run (havent run since thanksgiving, when i finished my first 5 miles race) and its bumming me out. But most days I can barely walk. I'm doing physical therapy 3 times a week but working out is very limited, and ive not had much time with school anyways
so thats a little update from me, i miss all ya'll, but i didnt think it was fair to anyone how little i was posting and being involved. now that school is over for a month i will have more time. hope everyone is well!
Good morning all!
Welcome to the final day of our BL Holiday Alumni thread! :santa:
I am your coach today so I am going to post a quick QOTD.
How are you going to ring in the New Year? Big party, quiet night at home, traditional meal? Or all of the above?
Fluff Disney QOTD: Have you ever been to WDW or DL during New Year's Eve? What did you do? Did you like it? Or if you haven't been what would be your perfect Disney New Year's celebration?
Oops late again. Oh well, better late than never, right? We are having a quiet night at home tonight. Play some games, watch a movie, and I'll fall asleep on the couch and ds will wake me up just before midnight. Friends invited us over, but I think we'll stay home. I'm on call til 7, and it's been nice to have some time off, and continue bonding with Poko.
Never been to wdw for NYE, but if I had the opportunity, it would be great to do a fireworks cruise from the contemporary to see the midnight fireworks. If they even have them, they must right. We did the Pirate and Pals cruise and it was so fun. That would be after a nice dinner somewhere new, maybe at the Ohanas or the luau.
Todays QOTD:
What do you plan to do to start off 2012 on a healthy note?
Fluff QOTD: If you could only go to one disney park on your next trip which one would you choose and why?
.
I plan to start tracking my food, every bite, starting tomorrow. I think I'm going to do that and use common sense and moderation, rather than follow ww points at first, and see how that goes. For exercise, walking the dog, 40 min each morning is our norm, and after work/school, usually another 30-40, or we'll go to the park and run her off leash, where I don't get the same exercise. I need new running shoes, and plan to do that in january, and then do some running again. I've done a little running with the dog on leash and she seems pretty agreeable to it, though I'm sure she'd like me to be a lot faster.
Fluff qotd- Definitely MK with ds. So many favorites there.
Rose -Love the pictures. DS is adorable in all of them, and I loved your comeback to the woman in the store. You look so fabulous. I am so happy for you, and think 2012 is going to be your year. :thumbsup2 Hope you had a great run today.
CC-Hope you are feeling better now that you can go gf again.:goodvibes
Deb-Your vacation sounds absolutely amazing. There best be a trip report when you return.
Thank you to all the coaches these weeks and all the love and support. Not much left in the way of junk in my house, so that's a good thing.
