Hey everyone!
I have a question about big thunder mountain.

I am really scared of big rides, but for my nxt trip to disney paris i'm being made to go on big thunder mountain. I wondered if u could tell me what its like?.

I've been told its not that bad, or dosn't drop down from that bigger heights is this right, or have people been winding me up!.lol. I mean i no, it does drop down and that a bit.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

I wanted to give your questions a little bump. We that don't like the big roller coaster have to stick together! Plus, I want to know too. :goodvibes Big Thunder Mt. at WDW does not have a big drop and it's my favorite ride in the park. It does climb a big hill all slow and scary to make you think it's going to drop, but it doesn't. It just kind of goes around the mountain. Now that's WDW and not DLP, so hopefully someone will know for sure. Have a great trip!

Lets put it this way.
I’m really really scared of these rides and IF I go on it I ware my special “Scary-ride Pamer” but BTM is not so freighting.:rotfl: :rotfl:

Don’t be scared just go for it.

This is a difficult one to answer as scariness is down to the individual.
There are parts of the ride where you are upside down :) A few parts where where you turn the corner at a banked angle.
Probably the scariest part is the tunnel when you first start and end the ride which is to take you under the water onto the mountain :)
My DS(7) would not go on it last year yet apart from Crush declared it his favourite ride :goodvibes

Last month was the holiday where I actually enjoyed BTM.
I remember riding it at WDW years ago but didnt ride it last time we went there as I did smaller rides with DD who was 3 at the time.
However went on it last year at DLP and hated it.
Dont thinkk it went upside down as Cyrano said (as no way will I do upside down!!!!) but did seem to go fast round bends etc
The worst part was the beginning where it suddenly dips down under the water and you are underground. I hated that and felt I couldnt breathe. That meant when we did eventually come out after what seemed like hours:rotfl: I was dreading what might come next and that it might go underground again.
This year I tolerated it at Easter and it didnt seem as bad but I would only do it once during the holiday despite having VIP fastpasses so we could have ridden it again and again without much queuing.
However this summer as I say I actually began to enjoy it and by the 3rd time I could actually take in some of the scenery. I now close my eyes during the first part so dont realise Im underground.

The drops arent really that steep and I would suggest getting fast pass if possible as this way you dont have as long to queue and get nervous waiting.

It is the only coaster I will ride at DLP

It only has a couple of drops but I personally don't think they are big. There is a dark tunnel though. I'm not sure what version Reid went on;) but it does not go upside down.

I got to ride this when it was getting dark outside and it was the best as you saw parts of the park lit up.

BTMRR is not very rough and I suggest you sit in the very back as it isn't as scary there.

i'd deffo go on BTM. Its an awesome ride. My Dad feels exactly the same about rides and we took him on and put him on the front. We put him on the front as it descends the hills while the back of the coaster is still ascending the lift hill. So this equals a more relaxing and enjoyable ride. If you liked it at the front you can slowly make your way towards the back............ as my dad now does!!!

This is my DD favourite ride.

Our friend who has a simliar feeling about rollercoasters as you did the ride once, with her eyes closed. She said it was not too bad but did not want to go up again.

liberty, I too am frightened of roller coasters and only ride the tamer ones at Disney because they hide the structure with the theming. :rotfl: I don't do upside down rides either so won't ride Space Mountain, Rock n Roller or Indiana Jones for neither love nor money.

But I love Big Thunder Mountain ~ it is my favourite ride :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Please give it a go. You probably won't enjoy it until your second time as your first time will probably be spent like mine was on the WDW version ~ eyes tightly shut, holding on for all your worth and wishing the ride would hurry up and end :rotfl: I then decided it wasn't so bad after all :lmao: so rode it again with my eyes open and from then on it's been my fave ride! :yay:

It's all the little details that make the ride so great ~ like the spinning racoons, the eyes in the tunnel, the rock that looks like it will fall......

Try and ride it at night too ~ it's a whole new ride in the dark and lovely to see the rest of the park lit up.

Lauren ~ if you love BTM at WDW then you will definitely love it at DLRP too. :thumbsup2

I have never done it as I am a really really scared scaredy cat who thinks the drop on POTC is a bit scary.:scared1:
May I suggest you have a look on youtube? Lots of people have filmed it while on the ride and posted it on there and can get a good idea of what it feels like.

I am a big girls blouse when it comes to rides, I too think POTC is about all I can handle. However, this time I was somewhat disgraced by the fact that my 4 year old son wanted to go on BTM, so in an effort not to lose face I agreed to go on it. Yes, I was scared...........but to be honest it was quite a thrill. The bits where you are outside are no problem, just some twists and turns. It was the bit when you go underground that caught me unawares as I was not expecting it and it freaked me out a bit. (think the hubby left this bit out on purpose).

I would say give it a go just once...if you absolutely hate it then at least you will know. And if nothing else, the photo will be priceless!!!!:rotfl2:

I'm not very keen on the 'big rides' (won't do Space Mountain or Rock n Roller Coaster!) especially if they go upside down, but I was 'persuaded' by my three to do Big Thunder Mountain and I've not looked back! It's brilliant and my favourite ride along with POTC - after reading through threads here, last year I got to go on it in the dark - a truly wonderful experience!

........ last year I got to go on it in the dark - a truly wonderful experience!

It is also wonderful to go on first thing on a cold wet December morning. It wakes you up better than any cup of coffee and definitely blows away all the cobwebs.

My wife likes Space Mountain but isn't too keen on BTM because it rattles too much. She doesn't trust it despite me telling her it's supposed to sound like that! :lmao:

Go on, brave it. You'll love it after. :goodvibes
