I'll be visiting the Monterey peninsula and surrounding area in mid March. I've been there many times in the past at roughly the same time of year. It's one of my favorite places for photography.
My plans for this year include doing more long exposure daytime shots, more shots combining flash and ambient light, more wildlife shots now that I have a longer lens, and (assuming I get it before the trip) some tilt/shift shots.
I'd love suggestions for places to shoot (or just fun places for a family with elementary school age kids). Here are the outings we're looking at:
1) Big Sur
4) Whale Watching Tour
5) Kayaking We might rent kayaks and paddle along the Monterey/Pacific Grove coast.
6) Elkhorn Slough Take a boat or kayak tour through the estuary.
7) Point Lobos Our favorite hiking/sightseeing spot. Great views. Great tide pools. Lots of marine mammals.
8) Año Nuevo State Park A great place to sea elephant seals.
9) Dennis the Menace Park Kids play park
10) Roaring Camp Railroads Train rides through the redwoods and to the beach.
11) Jacks Peak Hikes on the peak overlooking Pacific Grove. Mostly wooded, but with some views over the valley.
12) Garland Ranch Regional Park Hikes in Carmel Valley.
13) Laguna Seca Race track.
14) Helicopter Tour
15) Carmel Mission
If anyone (Gregg?) is interested in joining me out there for a little photography, let me know.
