I want to do something "big" while at WDW with my DS8

i rather make my big splurge an event then a souviner, any ideas?

Hubby and I have always talked about renewing our vows at Disney. But it is pricey. How about parasailing?

:thumbsup2 Take him to Lanouba, or splurge on a 3 day visit to Universal. The later, is what I will be doing with my DS12. HAve a great trip whatever you choose. :thumbsup2

would you consider a illuminations/or Wishes cruise a splurge? that would be cool...

I agree about the parasailing. Or maybe the Waterskiing or wakeboarding (I was suprised to read that there was no minimum age for that). Or La Nouba. Minimum age for Surfing Class at Typhoon Lagoon is 8, maybe that. Or a Fireworks cruise. Depends on what you like to do. Or the Personal Watercraft rental.

The Hoop-Dee-Do Review is a good (moderate) splurge.

We have three 'splurges' for our upcoming trip--staying at AKL $$$$$, the Backstage Magic Tour $199 per and the Segway Around the World Tour $80 per. To me, those are expensive enough to be 'splurges'!

since i have a ds9 here are the "splurges" he either enjoyed or would like to enjoy...

a fishing expedition (he did the kids' one at $30 from the yacht club, but we're doing a family one at $250ish from the poly)

wishes cruise (i had made a little "invite" and had the characters/server at chef mickey's deliver it, letting the kids think it was a huge dose of true pixie dust, not mom making it happen, which made it so much more magical!)

hoop dee doo revue! (ds's absolute FAVORITE!)

surprise gift on the foot of his bed every morning from a different character (i bought/wrapped little gifties during the month before our trip and put a sticker on from diff't characters to go w/the theme of the gift i.e. underwater camera from nemo to use at TL or BB) HUGE HIT! (also cut down on the begging for souvies as i'd say "ooh, we'd best not get that, what if the characters are going to deliver it tonight?!" knowing, of course, what was being "delivered!")

Horseback riding, parasailing, surf lessons, bicycle built for two, carriage ride, etc are all fun surprises too!

another thing i did to the kids was told them we were leaving friday when in fact we were switching resorts for our last two surprise days to their "dream" resort, AKL! instead of going to the airport that afternoon, we checked in at AKL instead... imagine their shock! it was GREAT! :)

Sorry to divert the thread for a moment, but Beeayekay, I hope you got a discount on the tours. AAA, AP, DVC or Disney Visa. If not, join something and call them back to get your discount!

So sorry, please resume the splurges! :wave2:

Our splurges last year were the Family Magic Tour and an IllumiNations cruise, and MNSSHP. I would love to parasail, but I have a bad back. DS was actually the one who pointed out that I would probably be better off NOT parasailing! :rotfl:

Future splurges will absolutely include La Nouba and a fishing charter - we couldn't fit them in for August.

December splurge will be MVMCP.

August splurges are Mickey's Magical Milestones Tour (DS is almost 10) and Lunch with an Imagineer at Brown Derby. The lunch is not recommended for kids younger than 14, but I am sure DS will enjoy it and conduct himself appropriately.

It is hard to find tours for little guys. We thought the Family Magic Tour was too babyish for DS - he was the oldest child in the group! He is dying to do the Segway tour but the minimum age is 16. Good luck finding something you will both enjoy!! :)

I would suggest the Family Magic Tour. We did this last trip with our 7.5 and 10 year old girls, and they loved it. Unless your 8 yo is unusually mature, I don't think this would be babyish at all. Actually, I would think he's about the perfect age for it!

We had a wonderful time and still have great memories from our Family Magic Tour. It's quite a unique experience, and not terribly cost prohibitive. I think it would make your ds feel quite special.

Thanks for that idea, went to that show 2 years ago, and doing a similar one in Niagara falls this year. Universal I was thinking about that for next year (and then a few days less at disney then too)

Isn't and 8 year old to young for both parasailing and wakeboarding? :confused3

GREAT IDEA! I will have to see how I can implement that one! :cool1:

Not something you could do with him but you could book him for the Pirate Adventure at the grand Floridian. I think there may be one at the carribbean beach too. You do not have to be staying at that hotel to do the Pirate Cruise. For a treat for yourself find out exactly when he will be gone and book yourself a treatment at the Grand Floridian Spa.

If the Pirates Cruise is booked (it likely will be), there are 2 other similar cruises available for kids (one is the Albatross Cruise which sails the lagoon at Epcot, the other is the Sassagoola (sp?) Cruise).

Have you considered taking him on a sunrise hot air balloon ride? My DH surprised me with this several years ago and it was incredible! I wouldn't hesitate to take my DD8 (wanted to this Sept. but we're only there for 3 nights). The company we flew with had us help set up the balloons before flight, which was both educational and very interesting. They can even provide transportation to/from your resort to the meeting sight. Kids 9 & under are FREE with a paying adult. I would recommend them! Check out their website for more info:

(No, I am no way affiliated with them, I just really enjoyed flying with them! :joker:

:thumbsup2 were going to the Not so scary halloween party, last trip we were there in Dec. and did not stay for the Christmas party......been kicking myself ever since! :badpc: so this trip were partying!!!!!!! :3dglasses :smooth: :woohoo: :dance3:
