BIG Happy Dance - DS#2 coming home from Iraq for DS#1's Disney Wedding!!!!!!

DS#2 was due to separate from Army 10/12/08 but was stop-lossed until 11/29/09 - we found this out 6 months AFTER DS#1 had scheduled and planned a Disney wedding for 12/15!! Leave request after leave request was denied (December leaves are given first to soliders with families/children which is certainly understandable), but this was so unfair and upsetting.

So, Mom with a Mission started writing letters last August - to local congress people, Army individuals, even the Pentagon. With no success. Was told last week that best he could do was leave in February. Wedding is still 12/15. So, too stubborn to admit defeat, I write 4 more letters. One of them worked!!!

Son called from Iraq at midnight last night with news that he will be home on 12/6 and stay until 12/22 - and will be at the wedding as Best Man!!!!

This will be the BEST DISNEY VACATION EVER!!!!
I am doing the happy dance all over the place!!!!!!

Just got word that he's on his way to the States! Left Iraq on Tuesday, trucked to Kuwait, waited for military transport, then to Germany and now to the States (geez - can anyone say jet lag???)

I keep looking out the window of my office hoping to see a taxi pulling up but realistically, it could be anytime between now and tomorrow afternoon depending on his layovers!

I'm SO EXCITED!! This is going to be the best vacation that ever was!!

That is great news to hear. I'm glad he will be home for the holidays. I know what it was like. When I was in the Airforce(82-87) I never spent a single day with my family during the holidays. But when I look back at it I'd do it all over again. Tell your ds thank you for his service to this great country of ours.

Was SUPPOSED to arrive on Saturday but got hung up in Kuwait - no call, no word, nothing and we were getting really nervous!!! Then 10:30 yesterday morning, he shows up at my office! SO GREAT he's here! He took DS#1 (we work at same office) and me to lunch and it was so unbelievable great to see them together all excited.

They're still my "little boys" no matter HOW tall they get!!! (DS#2 is 6'5")!!!
