On our first trip to wdw we would like our first dinner to be great. We will be arriving on a Sunday, and are on the dinner plan. What would be your pick to set the week off right! Be it the food, the atmosphere, or the characters.
party of 4 (boy 10 girl 4)!
thanks

where are you staying and did you want to enter a park or stay resort dining?

We are staying at the POFQ. Travel that first night might be fun to learn the ropes not under pressure.
Doesnt matter park or resort, maybe MK with firework show ?!

I have heard that if you make a late reservation at one of the World Showcase restaurants at Epcot (I mean real late - like 8:30/8:40) when you come out the park is practically deserted and very cool. We are giving it a try our first night in Sept. The crowds all run out right after Illuminations so you get to leisurely walk through an empty park and get a bus to yourself back to the resort.

If our flight arrives early enough, we always go to Chef Mickey's for dinner on our first night. We, then, ride the monorail around the loop. It gets everyone excited and ready for the next day!

We are making it a tradition that on our first night we will go to 1900 Park Fare at the Floridian for dinner. The food was great. You get to see Cinderella, Prince Charming, The Fairy GodMother and 2 of the mice. I don't know if that would be up your son's alley. I only have a DD6 so it is perfect for us.

Try Whispering Canyon- we have not been there but I have heard it is fun and crazy.

Chef Mickey at the Contemporary is a good choice also. Great character interaction. When we were there there was Mickey, Minney, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale.

Crystal palace in MK would be nice-chance to see Spectromagic and Wishes too!

I agree with Chef Mickey's! This idea is terrific!

It is our tradition also for Chef Mickeys first night, kids get to see characters. We can dig into food right away without waiting for order, very low stress. Kids love the food and dessert bar. Then it is nice to browse the shops at contemporary and hop on for a round trip monorail ride. This gets everyone excited for the trip. We usually do onorail ride before dinner so it is still light and we can see well.

Second choice would be Ohanas kids had a blast with the coconut races and learning to hula. Gave DH and I opportunity to eat with peace for 15-20 minutes. Food is brought out right away since it is served family style so you don't have to wait if hungry. After dinner you can go out on the beach and watch wishes (Fireworks over castle)

My kids are 11 and 5.

I would pick Chef Mickey's at the Contemperary resort. Just take a bus over to the MK and walk over to the resort.

I think 'Ohana is a great first night dinner. We're doing that the Sunday we arrive in September. It is a relaxing but fun dinner, and then we hang around & watch the electrical water pageant near the beach. Perfect way to start! :goodvibes
Though I must say, Chef Mickey's is a favorite of ours for breakfast--we've yet to try it for dinner, that idea sounds great too.:thumbsup2

I vote for O'Hana also! I have that planned as my first dinner, on arrival night this year. Try and schedule dinner around Wishes, and maybe even request a window seat. They pipe in the music, and the view is great. I think it is totally worth the wait for the window seat!!! I also agree that with kids, however, CHef Mickey's would be great. The kids would love it! Either way, I suggest not making the first night toooo laste of a night-- it's good to get some rest while you can :cloud9:
