We're going to bring DS with us to Disney in October when he'll be 6 months. As of right now, I'm completely dependent on the boppy to nurse due to him being 18 pounds and having to support him with one hand and my b00b with another. Do you think at 6 months it will be easier to not use a boppy? I would like to be able to nurse on some rides or on a quiet, secluded bench but I would like to just leave the boppy at home. Suggestions?

I'll be nursing in the parks too, but what is a bobby?

I am nursing a 7 month old, and I am lost without my Boppy! (For the second poster, a boppy is a crescent shaped pillow designed to support a baby while he/she is nursing. It goes around the mom's waist and the baby is on top. It's awesome!) We have a little baby-sized Boppy that my DD used while she was doing tummy time. It could fit in the basket underneath a stroller. Maybe you could take that instead of a full-sized Boppy?

Have a great trip when you go!

Hello!

I'm in the UK and sometimes use an inflatable pillow if I'm out and about to BF my DD.

It saves on space and stress and I've found it really useful - not sure if you could get something similar??:confused3

Oh my gosh, there is just no way I would haul a Boppy to the park. Then again, I wasn't the biggest fan of that thing, and don't plan on using it if I have more children.

In 2 months it will very likely be much different, so I doubt you need to plan to use it on your trip. I don't think my guy was that big by 4 months, but he was long, and therefore unwieldy. After about a month, I just held him up (you should have seen my arms, yowza they were strong!) b/c it was the best option.

Also, at 6 months very likely your "milks" (as DS calls them) will be changing as well, and you will just be more used to the whole thing, and you probably won't have to use your one hand to deal with that aspect of it. Probably.

Good luck!

I was boppy dependant for the longest time too. Whenever we traveled, I'd always bring it with for the hotel room, but I managed to get by when we were out and about without it. It would be a major pain to drag that thing with IMHO. When it gets closer to your trip, try practicing without it. Like another poster mentioned, your "milkies" will change over the next couple of months. I also thought that it got easier when DD got bigger because she helped herself stay attached.

I sort of recall the Epcot Baby Care Center having boppy-type pillows available, but they were a bit "used" looking.

We have inflatable boppy's up here. I just always kept it in the diaper bag and blew it up in less than a minute. Try looking for inflatable BF pillows on ebay if you cannot find one.

Yeah, I wouldn't drag the boppy. Just learn to prop him up with your leg. You take your right leg and put the ankle over the left thing kind of forming a right ankle. Then put baby on right BB, with your right arm under him and your left arm supporting wait on your right foot so it props your right leg up a little more. OMG you'll never understand those directions!!! I wish I could just show you! I bf DD to 18 months, so I was used to having to hold her.

I was boppy dependant too with both dds. I agree, that by 6 months, they're still nice to have, but I wasn't as dependant on it as I was when they were little. Baby will be stronger, and will need less help from you.
The other option would be to use a sling. A ringsling would be best for nursing. It holds baby up, and can give you some privacy as well.

The best ride to BF on in TTA, if it's not too busy (and most of the time it is not) they will let you stay on subsequent rounds. This worked well when I was BFing my DD 3mos, but had my DD age 3 with us!

Ya, lugging that bobby around will be a pain. It is hard enough bringing the essential stuff. I agree with the PPs, overtime, the way your baby nurses will change a bit. You should practice other positions as well without the boppy now. When I nursed my 6 mo at Disney, I used a blanket or jacket to help prop her up when needed.

Nanu57v, I understand...you don't need to explain :)

Have fun!!

A boppy would take up so much room, but if you get to six months and decide you just can't do without it, I would advise keeping the plastic case it came in to keep it clean (if you haven't thrown it out already). You'd have to make sure your stroller had a big basket too so you wouldn't have to carry it around.

I would bring the boppy but not take it into the parks. Whether you are flying or driving, it will come in handy during the trip.

Also it will be nice when nursing in the room. You can always use a regular pillow, but there's nothing like a boppy!

When nursing in public without it, you need to find someplace you can prop up one foot so your leg is elevated. I used the stoller (with the brake on of course) The stroller then also gives you a bit more privacy.

Good luck!

Instead of lugging around a boppy, bring a small blanket that you can roll up to help with support!

SO excited to see this thread!!! We are big bf advocates here and I nurse my son everywhere... Disney, Disney restaurants... :goodvibes My BB needed to be held too when I nursed my dd when she was a baby and when my son was younger and so I did the leg thing that the previous poster described. By 6 months your baby's mouth and head will be bigger and stronger, (and so will your arms and hands) and you wont' really need that boppy. I also suggest a ring sling, not only for ease of nursing but to carry baby around in!! Some women can nurse baby walking around when baby is in the sling. Worse comes to worse have dh hold baby's head, or bring a blanket, find a grassy spot and do the side lying nursing position.

Most likely, your baby will have a bigger mouth by 6 months and will be able to latch on and hold it without too much trouble.

Good luck with it!! You will be fine! :goodvibes

I bet you will not need a boppy by then and there is no way you are gonna want to carry one of those bulky things around the park. I just kind of put my leg up and you could use a blanket or reuseable diaper to help plus these would fit in the diaper bag and could be used to keep baby warm, the sun off his face and clean up baby messes.

I loved BFing my DD and DS.

MY kids always hated having anything covering their face..so when it's really hot and humid at WDW the BAby care centers are air conditioned and a nice break for you and baby...but I wouldn't worry too much about. I've always seen moms nursing where ever they could...Good for YOU!!!:goodvibes

Don't really have anything new to contribute, just kudos! I nursed DD until she was 3 and I am nursing 8 mnth old DD now. I agree that you might want to practice with a ring sling or another type of baby carrier that you could use while nursing. It will support some of his weight and give you some privacy. My DDs were pretty big too, but by the time they were 6 months old they were helping to support some of their own weight. Have fun!

What everyone else said.

Also, if you are large-br**sted, you can eliminate part of that need for hands by popping a rolled-up spit rag under the br**st during feedings. If you need to use a sling and/or something to raise the br**st, at first you may need to go into a restroom just to get baby latched, then come out to let him feed. (I don't mean to go into a stall, just inside the room if you can't otherwise find a secluded spot to get your clothes rearranged.)

Also, for people like us the special nursing tops do make it a BIT easier to NIP. Do be sure that you can manage your bra with one hand.

If your baby has been bottlefed, would you consider pumping and bottle feeding while at the parks? This way no need to being the boppy to the parks?
