I have heard so much about CBS's Beyond The Gates which is to debut tomorrow and I think CBS might have a winner if it's a hit. I saw the preview trailer for Beyond The Gates and I think it will be a strong hit and it's hard to believe that this soap opera will be the first new soap opera in 25 years since The Bold And The Beautiful debuted on CBS in 1987
Will you be watching Beyond The Gates tomorrow?

They have definitely been promoting the heck out of it! It's not my kind of thing, but it's nice to seem them trying with a new soap opera. It's risky in a genre that has seen a lot of decline recently.

I have seen zero ads for this. I guess I am not the target audience.

Well, if you watch CBS, they have been showing them. I usually have The Price on every day if I work from home, and they are definitely hitting it there, but also in Prime Time slots too.

I don't watch any daytime TV, I am not their demographic, but I do watch a fair amount of primetime programming on CBS. Nothing live, though sometimes I watch the VOD version that has commercials I can't skip. None of those have advertised Beyond the Gates.

I have been seeing it advertised while watching live shows on CBS at night or catching on Paramount. I do not plan to watch.

I don't see it lasting. Soaps have been dying out for decades, for a reason. It used to be that a fair number of (mostly) women would be home during the day and would watch fairly consistently. That's no longer true. Worse, there are literally thousands of shows you can watch these days, from classic series to Netflix or Showtime originals, if you were, say, home recovering from surgery or otherwise had a big chunk of potential viewing time.

I've seen lots of ads for this on prime time CBS programming.

This may be the first new soap for CBS in more than 25 years (1987 was 38 years ago), the late 90s -early 00s saw a few short lived soaps.
- The City (a spin off of Loving) on ABC
- Port Charles (a spin off of General Hospital) on ABC
- Sunset Beach on NBC
- Passions on NBC (which was the replacement for both Sunset Beach and Another World) (horrible soap!)

Sadly, I’ve watched each of those shows at some point.

I do not plan to watch the Gates. The only soap I’m still loosely watching/following is Days of our Lives. Even then I have to stream it in the app.

I record Young and the Restless and Bold and Beautiful everyday. Not planning on watching Beyond the Gates. Two soaps are enough for me to keep up with.
Honestly, I’m going to miss The Talk. I really enjoyed that show, and wish they could’ve found a diff time slot for the new soap.
I work from home and can really only have shows on that I can just listen to and not watch. The Talk was a nice break from news..

Do you remember Capitol? It preceded Bold and Beautiful, which I boycotted for 2 decades in protest of Capitol being cancelled lol

I tried watching the first episode yesterday, but turned it off after the second scene. It looks like there's going to be a lot of yelling and violence on this show - nothing like the old "Love in the Afternoon" themes from soaps of the past. I still think that if Procter & Gamble wanted to sponsor another soap, they should have revived As The World Turns and/or Guiding Light.

Saw ads for it on CBS prime time programming. It looks pretty bad, in a stereotypical soap opera way. Just massive amounts of overacting. I don't particularly care whether it's a majority black cast, but it could be a factor in its ratings.

I let it play the last couple of days. They edited the ads poorly to show extreme overacting. It wasn't as bad in the actual show. I'm wondering if they were going for a "Real Housewives" kind of vibe, or trying to pick some of those fans up...

There's been a lot of black history/contributing to the movement references. I don't know if it's to help set the story, or if it will continue to be a part of the show.

Sorry, work for a living. Never see anything before about 4:00 PM (do catch early morning news before I leave for work at 6 AM).

I don't watch Real Housewives but they had Karen Huger (Real Housewives of Potomac) on the premiere episode.

Interesting. I am a business owner, working 40+ hours a week. I never watch TV when it is broadcast.

It's not horrible it could be better. if they can do a good job with Character development, if they do the old ways of establishing Families First. The clothing and styling is excellent. The cast has some wonderful, talented members.

I'm not sure how many people actually watch the over the air broadcasts, whether they via antenna, cable, etc. vs streaming on deman.

Episodes are streaming for free, although it's also available on Paramount Plus. Not sure how long they remain up. I suspect the entire series will be available on Paramount Plus, while the free streaming will be limited to the latest few episodes.

But I don't get daytime soap operas. I'm not the demographic for it.
