Beware of DVC promotion on DCL - only ON residents eligible

Only those Canadians residing in Ontario are eligible for purchasing (including the promotions) Disney Vacation Club points on the Disney Cruise Lines. That fact is not advertised up front - you would only find out the hard way, if you were to meet the DVC rep on board and specifically ask her that question.

Last week, while on the Disney Magic (on the Mediterranean cruise) - I told the DVC rep I was from Ottawa, Canada. She did not realize that Ottawa was in Ontario - she told me I was not eligible to buy DVC points on board. Later she got back to me, and indicated that she did not realize that Ottawa was located in the province of Ontario - and explained that Ontario only residents of Canada were eligible to buy DVC points on board.

Gee are we surprised? I guess the money on the east coast must be a different colour and worth more than on the west coast?

That's good info for folks to know

Sadly, Ontario is the only province that DVD - Disney Vacation Development -is licensed to sell in.

So for all us other folks, we have to be in Florida to purchase DVC...or you have to have folks in Ontario that are willing to let you "move in" with them for a little while

It has something to do with the real estate laws in the other province. At least that was the explanation that I got from Disney when I e-mailed them asking why I couldn't at least get the info sent to me so we could consider it the next time we were at one of the parks. They told me no sorry you will just have to wait until your there. That annoyed me. I realize that I can't buy it from there but I can't even access the info page on the internet either I think I might be moving back in with my parents for a little bit

This restriction has to do with the real estate laws in the various provinces not Disney -- Disney would gladly send you the information but unfortunately they can't. Disney is also not trying to hide this information. They don't know where you are from until you tell them. Since most of their business is from the US they don't advertise the restrictions they are under.

Just a point of clarification....a resident of ANY province can purchase on DCL if in the Bahamas/Caribbean. We have done it once and will do it again.

As another poster said, you can also buy while in Florida or California.
