Better to stay at a Disney Springs hotel or rent a studio DVC from Davids?

This makes sense. DH & I stayed in a BLT studio for a 'no kids' trip and I felt like we were so cramped. I could not imagine how a family of four would fit in a studio. And you are saying the AKV studios are the smallest...yikes...I prefer a value room any day over the BLT studio if we are just comparing size.
No. I'm saying that AKV Value Studios are the smallest of all DVC studios. There are a lot of AKV standard view and savanna view studios and they are much bigger. The value studios are very limited in number, take considerably fewer points and are quite a bit smaller than most DVC studios.

I'll add one more thing - getting matched with an owner isn't a big deal if you are looking to stay at VAKL or SSR or OKW - those have more owners looking to rent than people wanting to stay there. So that match should be fast at more than seven months out. The problem is with the other resorts, almost all of them have fewer owners willing to rent than people who want to stay there on rented points. From an owners point of view, if I have BCV points and contact David today, they will be gone by this afternoon, if I have SSR points, it might take a few weeks. From your point of view, if you contact David today about a BCV room, it might be weeks before you get a match - if you contact him today about an SSR room, you'll get a match today or tomorrow.

At seven months points can be used anywhere, but availability has tightened to the point where those high demand resorts are often booked. So at seven months you can be matched with an SSR owner, only to find that there are no rooms at the BW left. And there most likely won't be standard view rooms at the BW left.

If I were making this decision, I'd look at comparing OKW or SSR or a standard view (no animals) VAKL room to a Disney Springs hotel rather than BWV Standard View - realistically, the BWV Standard View won't be available.

Plus by 2020, DVC could figure out a way to limit point renting.
