Better to Buy Over the Phone or In Person?

We're looking at buying another contract direct from Disney (we currently own 2 others that were bought direct as well) and we're wondering if people get any extras when buying while at Disney World vs just doing it over the phone? My wife and I did a timeshare presentation in Vegas years ago while waiting for our hotel room and they kept lowering the price and adding things in. I've never done the tours, or even talked to the sales people at the kiosks at Disney World, so I have no idea if they offer some extras, or the price is the price and that is that. I do remember sitting in a DVC presentation years ago on a Disney Cruise, and I swear they were giving onboard credit if you bought while on the ship.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Sorry, no negotiations on DVC. You might get a pin or back pack. We got two tote bags (nice ones) in 1996 and ice cream.

The price is the price for Disney, they wont budge. I got some fast passes when I did my tour and some ice cream.

But there is no movement on price. The deals are published.

They don't budge and the price is the price. When VGC came out they were giving a discount on the ships but i do not know if they were giving the same discounts elsewhere but once the discount was giving the price is the price.

In Precedented Times, you could get ice cream at the DVC Sales Center at SSR, but I don't believe that is open right now, so I'd just buy over the phone and not take time out of my vacation.

The sales center at SSR is open they are giving tours of the CCV rooms in the sales center and the newly remodeled SSR grand villa.

That's good to know. So are the model rooms CCV and RIV now? I think they built the RIV models where the Aulani room model had been, but maybe they left that and took out the Poly model?

Are they doing the ice cream?

We were not offered ice cream but we weren’t there to buy anything we just wanted to tour all the different rooms, since they have them all open now. The only have CCV in the center and the other side the guide told us they are secretly building out the next DVC models (I’d assume it’s the DLT). If you want to see RIV they will give you an appointment to get through the guard gate and then you go up to the DVC kiosk and you can get a tour. Right now you can tour any of the big DVC rooms at each resort (GV, bungalows, cabins), we made a whole day of checking them out. RIV is the only one you need an appointment for all the other you just need to tell the guard you are there to tour DVC.

When I bought direct on the phone, I got a $25 gift card I think. I need to search my email to find it. Otherwise just the backpack and magnets and the nice golden plaque that says "Welcome Home"

That's interesting that they still have CCV but it sounds like they might be breaking down the RIV model already, since CCV is nearly sold-out and RIV will be active for some time longer.

I think the RIV has such a beautiful outdoor courtyard area and they probably feel they can sell it better taking you to the actual resort vs a giant warehouse with rooms built in it. We were in the WL lodge a month ago and they have a whole floor you can see from in the main lobby that’s under construction with just black plastic sheeting covering it it’s not attractive for selling.

We bought VGF direct at SSR sales center. We made an appointment, they picked us up at Coronado before we were members, watched our daughter in the daycare center. Gave us 3 fast passes each, Ice Cream, $100 gift certificate and a DVC tote. $165 Direct for 100 points. I was so nervous signing on the dotted line. Very happy with the decision, never looked back. Added on direct on the phone for CCV 5 years later, it was very easy but not as much fun as in person.

our first tour we didn't buy but received fast passes and ice cream

We got a $25 Disney gift card for listening to their DVC sales pitch over the phone.
