I started my trip report, but never finished or posted it and I am having major Disney envey now, so I thought I would go on and rehash our trip.
Cast:
Me-38, DH took me to DW for my 1st time on our honeymoon. Been back 5 times since in 12 years. Absolutely love Disney World!
DH-42, He had been several times before we got married.
DD-10, Is missing owl pellet disection day in school for the trip. (Yuk!) This is her 4th trip to DW.
DS-5, This is his 3rd trip to DW, but 1st time flying.
We are leaving the Thursday before Thanksgiving. DH doesn't want to take the kids out of school anymore than we have to. I, personally, think they will learn a lot more in DW than in school for 1 particular week, but marriage is about compromise and I guess DH had the best idea on this one. The kids are missing 3 days instead of 5 or 6 and w/ it being before Thanksgiving, there won't be as much going on. (We do have homework w/ us, including the owl pellet, but more about that later.)
We were flying out of Raleigh-Durham NC b/c the rates are so much cheaper than our local airport. DH's parents are going to drive us down the day before our flight (a 3 hour trip) and we are staying at a motel close to the airport. I love my IL's dearly, but sometimes...
Anyway, FIL asked to make sure I had directions to the motel and airport. No problem I told him, a friend at work who drives that way to see his daughter frequently was giving me excellent directions. Well, I work 1/2 day and run home at 12:00 and get everything by the door and wait for the IL's. They come over on time and we load the car, tell the cats goodbye and head to the school to pick the kids up. Afterwards, FIL turns a different way than I expected, but I thought he was going to take a different road to avoid traffic to get out of town. We get to where we should have turned and keep going straight. DH asks where are we going? FIL has decided to take the real scenic route. That's o.k. though, I just want to be at the motel by 6:00, that's 3 1/2 hours from now, we'll be fine. Well, we get down to the Raleigh area and it is starting to get dark. We aren't coming in the way my directions say, so they are useless. For some reason, FIL thinks he knows how to get where we are going, but he actually has no idea. So, we are driving around the outskirts of Raleigh, in the dark, trying to get through construction. We asked for directions, but still didn't get it right. We knew we were near airport, we kept on seeing all the planes. I had to call the motel and tell them we would be there after 6:00. Luckily, someone there gave us good directions and we pulled into the motel about 1 hour later than expected. We had reserved 2 connecting rooms which were listed as a suite and cost only $20.00 more than a regular room. When we check in, the front desk tells us that the people who had the suite the night before have not checked out, so we can't have that room. I was not happy to hear that! They do have 2 rooms next to each other. I ask about the price and they say the will honor the price of the suite, so everything turned out o.k.
We finally get into our rooms and freshen up to head out for dinner. We drive around again trying to find how to get to the one particular restaurant. Finally, we make it. It was called Baby Moon Cafe and was an Italian place. It was very nice, the prices weren't bad and even DH who generally doesn't do Italian, enjoyed his meal. We then head back to the motel to watch tv and relax and get some sleep. The kids are thrilled at all the planes they get to see from our room. Luckily, the noise wasn't a problem.
The next morning, we get up bright and early to shower and get ready. The motel has a fairly nice FREE breakfast, so we eat there. DIL'S were going to take us to the airport, but after the direction issues the night before and MIL finding out she coudn't go past security to see the kids get on the plane, we took the hotel shuttle. It was very efficient, let us off right at the door. (And he didn't get lost!!)
Coming next: SW worries, car rental worries and getting to Florida in 2 hours!!
