On one of my last trips to Disney, the one thing we were disappointed in was the lack of Disney movies provided on TV at the resorts (we had several rainy days and wanted to take a break back in our room watching one).
For out upcoming trip I was planning on bringing some with me. It has been a little while since my last trip, technology is always changing, so I had a few questions.

First, if I brought a DVD, would I have to bring my own dvd player or laptop to watch it?

Second, if I bring chromecast, does anyone know if the TVs/internet at the AKL would support this?

Third, has anyone had experience with buying movies from the digital collection? This seems like the way to go these days for traveling, but can they actually download to watch them without an internet connection, airplane?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me navigate technology!:)

1. Yes, unless you are staying CL you have to bring your own DVD player or a computer with a DVD player with HDMI cord. CL has a DVD in each room as well as a DVD disc library collection you may borrow.

Second, if I bring chrome-cast, does anyone know if the TVs/internet at the AKL would support this?

1. The only problem you might have with chrome-cast is buffering, many hotels now limit their band width.

1. This is your best option. I download my Disney digital movies to my Kindle Fire before I leave home, pack my special Fire HDMI cord and the DGDs can watch any movie they choose either on the plane or in the room. You can also use your computer or Ipad, etc. You could also begin a download before you leave for the park for the day and it will not have as much of a likelihood of buffering issues because everyone else is in the park also.

Thank you! This was super informative. You've convinced me to go digital.

Chromecast won't work in a hotel because it can't get past that 'hotel login' page that you get when logging into a hotel's wifi. The only way you can use it is if you bring a travel router and use that to connect the Chromecast. The Kindle Fire stick, however, will connect to wifi despite the hotel login page. We are bringing our Fire Stick as a result, even though we would probably get more use out of the different Chromecast offerings.

As far as I know, there are also DVD players in DVC villas, even the studios.

We always bring our DVD player and a ton of movies. We just connect the DVD player to the TV, so much better then watching it on the DVD player or ipad etc.

I hooked up my laptop and streamed a couple of Prime shows while we were there in June. I'd do either that or bring my Roku stick and connect it to my phone via WiFi to stream anything I wanted.

Do you have a portable car DVD player that has a screen? If you do, bring that. We bring ours with us when we travel, granted, we watch the movie on the screen which is like 10" or something, but the kids are used to it in the car, so it works for them.

Otherwise, laptop, if you have one with a DVD player (DH's new one does not)

And if it's not raining, you can watch the movie of the day on the big screen by the pool.
