DH husband has been away from home for a month & I'd like to take him some homemade dinners. Our flight is about 2 hours long. What is the best way to keep it cold? Thanks!

We usually freeze the items that we are taking, then wrap them well with newspaper and tape. Pack them in an ice chest with either dry ice or blue ice.

Are you flying on a commercial airline?

You may want to call them and see what their guidelines are and if you can bring dry ice, etc. on the plane.

So, what are you taking? :scratchin

I also second the "check the airlines for rules with flying with dry ice"

Here's a different idea - it probably would be helpful to know if you are cooking meals first, or bringing them frozen/uncooked.

But - if they were cooked first -(I just don't think I would try this with uncooked meals): I would freeze them for several days - i.e. make sure they are "really frozen" and then pack a cooler with ice packs on the sides and the bottom. Layer your meals in there. and top off with some ice packs.

The frozen meals will help to keep themselves frozen. At your destination - if any have started to thaw - have those for dinner that night.
