My parents just recently surprised us by booking a family trip to the Polynesian in May :cool1:. So DS(ister) and I thought it would be a nice idea to do something to show our appreciation by doing something to make the trip a little extra special. We were thinking about upgrading our GV room to LV, but since we are staying for 8 days that would be pretty expensive (but def. not out of the question). Then we were thinking...our flight home doesn't leave until 8:25 pm., maybe we could just book the room for an extra day so we won't have to rush around on the day of check-out :teeth: . But before doing anything, we would love to hear any ideas that you might have! What would be the best surprise your children could give you at WDW (particularly @ the Polynesian)?? All ideas all welcome!!

look into a specialty firework cruise either just for the two of them or the whole family. the boat will make pick ups from the poly (leaves from the gf) & will bring you around the lagoon & upfront to view the mk fireworks, you could also arrange dinner, snacks or dessert on board through the grand floridian private dining. the pontoons are about $140 fits 10 or the grand1yacht is $300 fits 16.

you could also arrange for a gift basket, cake or floral bouquet in their room through the disney florist.

Maybe instead of LV you could do GVC for maybe the last 2 days. Concierge is $10 more than the LV but your parents might enjoy the extras that come with concierge. DD12 and I stayed GVC last Sept and loved it. She wanted to go again this Sept but we are doing ASMo w/free dining plus Poly is under refurb. We're either Value or Deluxe. Personally just don't like Moderates.

That is so nice of your parents, truthfully we never spend that much time in the room to justify anything more than a garden view. I think with the money you could treat them to the luau, or maybe a really fancy dinner at victoria and alberts etc.

I second the specialty cruise!! I think that's a wonderful thing to do for them and they'd probably love to share it with the whole family!!

Unfortunately from october onwards there has been a price increase. (info taken from Allears)

Pontoon Basic: A 21-foot pontoon boat, which seats a maximum of 8. The price for the Pontoon Basic is $187.79 + tax, and the cost includes a driver, bagged snacks (pretzels, chips, popcorn), water and Coke products. Audio from Wishes is NOT piped in to the Pontoon Basic.

Pontoon Premium: A 24-foot pontoon boat, which seats a maximum of 10. The price for the Pontoon Premium is $234.74 + tax, and the cost includes a driver, bagged snacks (pretzels, chips, popcorn), water and Coke products. Audio from Wishes IS piped in to the Pontoon Premium.

VIP Cruises are available on the Grand1, a 45-foot Sea Ray 450 Express Bridge yacht, offering private dining, butler service, and a captain. Cruises are for 1-13 people, and start at $375.58 per hour, with a one-hour minimum.

I wouldn't do anything that lengthens the trip, since you may not know enough of your parents' schedule to determine if they could handle another day there.

I agree with some of the previous mentions of maybe booking some special event while you're there. But before you do that, I'd find some way to figure out if your parents have made any ADR's or any other plans for your trip, so you know the event will work out.

The Illuminations cruises are my favorite...they leave from Boardwalk or Yacht Club and you go under the bridge into Epcot for an incredible view of Illuminations...the boats accomadate 10 people I believe, so maybe everyone could go.

If you want to go all out you could move everyone to garden view concierge...that would be a lovely treat for all and provide some savings on meals...and it is so nice to be treated SO special.

You might contact the Grand Gatherings people if there are more than 8 in your family group...they can arrange a lot of special activities. The sunset safari at AKL or something similar might be a once in a lifetime family experience. If that is too pricey maybe you could treat everyone to a special meal, either character dining someplace or the Hoop De Doo or the Luau

Lots of options...but remember to make them a great video or album of pictures from the trip!!

WOW! So many great ideas. Those specialty cruises seem to be a pretty popular choice! I was just on the specialty cruise thread... :earseek: ....they sound like they are impossible to book! Only 5 or so boats and all those tons of people who want one. Wow. Thats seems like the thing to do! But I love those gift baskets too. They are so cute. Has anyone ever got a resort themed one? I was thinking about getting either a Polynesian themed one or an Imagination themed one.....or a living seas themed one (ahhhh!!! decisions, decisions!). I love the idea of upgrading to concierge too, but I'm not sure if they would really benefit from it all that much (when I think of concierge, I think of the food...and they eat most of their meals in the parks so I can't see paying all that extra money if they are not going to take advantage of the best part...THE FOOD!! ). grimley1968: I wouldn't be lengthening the trip, I would just be lengthening the amount of time we can spend in the room before we have to catch our flight at 8:25pm. I read another thread where somebody's flight didn't leave until late, and instead of checking out at 11:00 am and having to lug their stuff all around, they booked the room for another night and just checked out when it was convenient for them (which in our case would probably be around 5 pm). Thanks for looking out though!
