We are in the very very early planning stages for a trip in 2023. Flying from the US, we would love to see Sweden, Finland and of course, Norway.

Is cruising our best bet? We are a very active healthy couple in our early 60s. Thinking of a trip somewhere between 10-14 days.

Thank you!

Cruise. That’s how my parents and grandmother saw them. They loved it. Went on a Celebrity Cruise.

Tell me more about your self drive! That’s usually how we travel.

Where did they cruise from?

It was over 15 years ago, but if memory serves me correctly, it left from Norway because they flew to Norway a couple of days beforehand in order for my grandmother to visit a cousin near Oslo. Or it ended in Norway and they visited the cousin immediately after the trip, but I'm pretty certain that the cruise started there.

We are considering a Viking cruise on that itinerary but haven't pulled the trigger yet because we have never done a ocean cruise and just can't imagine we'd like a large cruise ship atmosphere. Looking at Viking since they are much smaller and we've done their River cruises and liked them.

We are going to Norway in May 2023 with my MIL. She was born there and Norwegian is my husband’s first language, although he was born in US. There are so many fjords that you definitely don’t need to cruise to see them. They are pretty much there on the coast.

We are using Norway as a base camp. Will be taking small trips to Copenhagen and Stockholm. We’ll finish in Altafjord, Norway.

If you go before April, you could scoot across to Finland. There’s some really cool camps you could stay at to see the Northern Lights and then watch polar bears in the wild. I wish we were going just a month sooner. My MIL wants to be there during National Day celebrations, which will be fun but I’d rather see some really cool things in Finland.

This sounds like a wonderful trip!
