Ok longtimers, help a relative newbie out.
My plan for next year is to use all our DVC points in Sep/Oct (currently we've been splitting them between Spring and Fall as adjuncts to an offsite Marriott stay).
My plan is to stay in a studio in one of the other onsite DVCs (BWV, AKV, VWL are my preferences) Sep 28-30. It happens to be a Sun-Tues next year. Then move over to our home in SSR for the next 10 days (probably in a 1bedroom unless we invite family). The hitch is I'll need to book an HA room to stay. (I could manage without the roll-in shower a couple days but I'm too short for the high beds in standard rooms.)
So I was thinking of booking SSR at 11 months but in two reservations: the first 3 days in an HA studio and the next 10 in a HA 1bedroom. Then at 7 months try to switch the 3 days out to one of the other resorts.
I think I'd prefer to try BWV first since I want to experience all this hype of walking to the parks firsthand. Next choice would be VWL for the resort itself and boat to MK. And last AKV for its motiff.
But needing that HA room is the troubling factor to me. When I tried to book VWL and BWV before, they had regular rooms but no HAs. I don't think they even check with Special Services before filling wait lists (when I was called in the past on a Wait List they had to call SS and found they did NOT have availability after all, this is why I never did automatic switching). So what's better for me to do? Day-by-day calling at 7 months?
Second, I thought end of September would be good to try BWV but am I underestimating the power of opening weekend for F&W? How is availability at VWL during that time?
If anybody's done this before, I'd love to know your experiences. I realize the irony of wanting a room that most don't and yet not having availability. I don't even mind if our room is by the dumpster as long as it's usuable.
