We booked a guaranteed oceanview stateroom for 2 to the Mediterannean in June. We have not received our cabin assignment yet.

We are considering moving up to a veranda if available. Are there any tips or tricks to get the best rate.?

Also when is the best time: right now, when we get our cabin assignment, just before we cruise or after we are onboard?

got a $15,000 Concierge for a $2800 upgrade from GTY; total I paid was $4800.). I wasn’t the only one who wanted it, I just got there first, as a B2B cruise
Should add to my B2B suggestions - book an upgrade if interested.

I have no choice but to book GTY and I always, I'm platinum, get notified before boarding. I never really paid attention as to when but I'm pretty sure it's weeks, maybe sometimes even a month or so before the cruises.

You can’t just upgrade in Disney after Paid in full date without incurring a penalty.
Is this true? I thought one could upgrade after PIF, but not downgrade or cancel without penalty.

OP - it will take a phone call, but if verandahs are still available and you really want a verandah I would call to enquire about upgrading. The worst they can say is no, then you can ask again at the port (and it would be discounted at that point).

Cabin assignments for a *GT usually come about 10 days prior to embarkation though it could be anytime between booking and embark date. Letter/number GTY are often assigned about a 30-60 days prior to embarkation, though again could be anytime.

I’ve downgraded after PIF with no penalty before. This was during peak COVID restrictions though, so I don’t know if they just were happy to have people on the ship.

IIRC, as long as you haven't booked a *GT where you can't make a change, you can upgrade by paying the difference at the time of booking the upgrade, even if you've PIF. If you really want to upgrade, I wouldn't chance an upgrade at the port. I'd do it now, especially since prices can rise as you get closer to the sail date (depending on how booked up the cruise gets of course). I would probably call rather than try to do it through the site though.
