Best way to make a non-DVC ressie??

We're planning on booking a cash reservation at a non-DVC facility (probably a moderate resort) for our Saturday night of arrival in order to save the points and I'm simply looking for the best way to make the arrangements. Should I use the Disney site or is there an advantage to calling MS for this type of arrangement? This is our first trip as DVC members, and I appreciate your thoughts.

I don't believe you can book a cash ressie at a non-DVC resort by calling MS. YOu will have to call CRO for that.

Just reserve it online thru disney.com . MS can make non-DVC reservations using points, but not cash reservations at non-DVC resorts. You could also let Dreams Unlimited Travel (one of the DIS sponsors) assist with your cash night.
