We are staying at Fairfield Inn & Suites International Cove (on Canada Ave. just off Sandlake and I-drive). I had assumed we would take I-4 to WDW but someone on another thread posted this:

If you want to go to WDW just take I drive south till it ends. It will curve around to the right and onto 536 which takes you right into Disney. It is just a short ride. Avoid I-4 if you can as it backs up all day long especially in the area of 535, 536 (WDW area).

Should we use these directions or will we be okay with I-4? We're going May 4-11.

I guess I4 is all in the eye of the beholder. We were there last week in August last year , and never once saw a real traffic jam. (we left and came back during what would be considered rush times.. 8 am and 6-7 pm)

But we are from Philly, where mysterious backups on the expressway is common place, where it also takes over an hour to go 10 miles to the city.

That is what we are used to, so we were preparing for the worst. We never saw any "bad" backups. Again, perspective is key here.

WE are staying in the Sandlake area on our trip in August. Everytime we try a "local" backway, it takes longer.

there is a different way to go & that is the way I would (much less traffic). You can take I Drive to SandLake, head towards I4 on SandLake, then instead of getting on I 4, go to the next traffic light (which is SandLake & Turkey Lake/Palm Pkwy). Make a left onto TurkeyLake/Palm Parkway. Stay on that till you get to Palm Pkwy & Apoka-Vineland (you will see the Olive Garden on your left). Make the left onto Apoka-Vineland (get into the right lane just after you turn) and take that to the next traffic light (The CrossRoads...you will see a McDonalds on your left). Make a right onto Hotel Plaza Blvd & you will be in Downtown Disney....from there you can go to any park, just follow the signs....I think that is much faster than International Drive.......and I 4 (depending on the traffic there) Hope I didn't confuse you.....

Thanks!

CindyB - I live in Durham NC and travel I-40 every day to work. When there is no traffic it takes me 22 minutes. Yesterday there was an accident in a stretch where there are normally 4 lanes of traffic - only one was open. So instead of getting to work at 7:30 I got there at 8:50! So I know what you're talking about with traffic.

I pasted MickeyFans directions into my itinerary just in case. We'll probably check the radio or tv before we leave our hotel to see what the traffic is like. If I4 is busy we'll try the alternate. I like to have a backup just in case.

I've tried back local ways, and had hard times...I've found I4 a breeze, but again its perspective.
