best way to get to San Diego WIld ANimal Park

We are going to DL in late Feb and want to make a day visited to the WAP. There is at least 4 of us but maybe up to 8 people.What is the best way to go - a bus trip or rent a car? Further questions to that - where do you book a bus trip? How does one rent a car at Disneyland?

WAP is kind of in the middle of nowhere - it's not really in San Diego but further north and east in Escondido. Kind of makes sense - they needed a lot of open land for the animals. So I think a car ( van with 8 of you?) would be by far the easiest. As long as it's not rush hour a little over an hour should get you there from DL.

I'm pretty sure the hotels have rental desks in or near them. Might be a little pricier, but for 1 day trip probably not that big a difference. Non-airport rental agencies don't have to pay the airport fee so start out cheaper in general.

The rental web sites list the off-airport sites. I've had good luck with Alamo using Costco rates. You might try Walmart too if you're not a Costco member. Somewhere on the general disboards (not the forum) there is a listing of discount codes.

You'll enjoy the WAP. Well worth the trip.

I can't help with the bus part. If you decide to rent a car, most if not all of the major car rental companies have offices in Anaheim area. Most of them offer pick up and drop off if within a certain area.

Try to avoid rush hours, I5 can be a nightmare at certain time of the day.

I also agree that renting a van or something is probably best, since it really is in the middle of NOWHERE lol. While you're driving, there will be frequent moments of, "um, this can't possibly be right!", but as long as you follow the signs, it is!
