I live in Santa Clarita,CA about 1 hour from Disneyland.

Hopefully some of you know about the freeways down here. We usually just take the 5 South all the way to Disneyland Drive. We are going next Tuesday and leaving at 7:30am. Now I know the traffic is horrible on the 5 to LA so I was wondering is the 170 Hollywood freeway less crowded?

Because looking at the map, the 5 splits into the 5 and the 170 but the 170 reconnects to the 5 before Disneyland dr exit.

So should we take a chance and take the 170 half way there?\

sorry if this is confusing.

here's a map:
The yellow path is the one we usually take
The blue path is the one in question

I'd stick to the 5. I think you have to get on the 101 somewhere in there (hard to tell from your map) If you do, I'd avoid the 101 like crazy!

Can you take the Amtrak down? Sometimes I will take it from Oceanside up to Anaheim. Once you get to Anaheim, it's about a $10 taxi ride to the resort.

Hi... I used to live in the SC valley :) I commute to the valley daily from Acton and can tell you that driving the 5 fwy at 7:30 am is going to put you into traffic all the way down! It gets really slow and mostly only 3 lanes after you exit the downtown portion of the 5. Taking the 170 really isn't going to save you much time and it may add time to your drive since you will be going thru hollywood and then thru downtown LA before catching up with the 5 again...
We have tried different routes and if we are going to drive down there during the traffic times, we just take the 210 to the 57 and surface streets across to DL. It's a more round about way, but the 210 and 57 have carpool lanes and we have made better time during the morning commute...

I'll ask my dad about this way. My dad drives every morning to work for the city of Beverly Hills so he's familiar with the freeways and streets.
