I'm considering holidays in Orlando with a 6 days gateway in HH. I own in VB and have never been to South Carolina yet.

I've checked several options : train (6 hours, cheaper), flying Orlando to Savannah, (3 hours but expensive for our family of 4, and there is a stop in Atlanta), car (300 miles, estimated time says aol : 5 hours 22mn).

How did you get there? Is the way by car quicker with a lot of highway, of mainly small roads? Is there a place worth stopping at halfway?

Thanks for your help and happy new year! :dance3:

Recently one of the Orlando television stations did a test with two of their reporters.

Who would get to Atlanta faster and cheaper--driving or flying.

While the one who flew got to Atlanta ahead of the driver (by only about an hour as I recall), the cost was much greater for flying as opposed to driving.

My suggestion, DRIVE!!

I've driven to Savannah from Melbourne and it is about 5 to 6 hrs depending of traffic, rest stops, etc.

JMHO....

I would suggest you drive. It's interstate highways the entire way until you get to highway 298 in South Carolina which is 30 minutes from the HHI resort. If you fly into Savannah, you're likely going to want to rent a car there as well. It's not a difficult drive, and, if you leave WDW relatively early in the morning, you'll arrive at HHI in time for check-in.

Thanks! I'm very impressed by your prompt answer (especially considering that in Florida it is 2.30 in the morning!)

DVC members are definitely a great big family!

Drive, it should take about 5 hours, and flying these days would take you almost as long.

When you get to Jacksonville take the bypass around the city---it's much more sane. Then again, you are from France.....;)
